The website that sells is, cyfre adapters want 20 bucks to ship it. Thats absolutely ridiculous, so i was wondering where else i can get this thing?
Is this really any better than the wi-ex signal booster? |

| reply to jed1154 I didnt see that it was 5 lbs....my fault. Im used to amplifiers that are 'small' by comparison, so the cost caught me off guard. Is teh antenna that comes in this kit suitable for outdoor use? I have NO signal in my home (at least none that the card can pick up. Im in a fringe area, and the setup i have now is an omni directional antenna, that works, but not that well. I get a great connection, but the card will not send and receive data for anything. If i bypass my current setup, the card works great. Im asking because it seems as though others that purchased this kit used a directional antenna to really isolate the signal.
Thanks for the info! |

| The antenna that comes in the kit is an outdoor antenna , The amplifier is 2 lbs by itself . You are buying a full kit that includes an Ac adapter , ++++. For $200 you are getting $300 worth of stuff. the antenna that is included in the kit goes for $40 b y itself .Usually all you need is the antenna that comes in the kit . Just make sure it is on a metal ground plane. Don't buy the directional antenna yet . Wait till you try the one included . It is a great antenna. -- www.MaximumSignal.Net |

| reply to jed1154 Thats exactly what im going to do, im going to try out what comes with it. I have a metal roof on my house, so that ought to be a big enough ground plane. :P
I may need some extra stuff though. I have to get the antenna onto the roof of my two story house, and the amp and adapater cable to connect to the EVDO card on the first story of the house. Im not sure how much extra stuff ill need to accomplish this or what the limits of this system are as far as cable length. |

| The best place to get additional cable is here »www.eur-am.com/info-amp.htm
He has really good quality cable and very good prices. Because the Cyfre amplifiers use software driven amplification they will compensate for Rf loss in cabling and connections up to a point so any run under 100 feet you can use Low Loss RG58 ( LMR200). You do not have to spend a fortune on LMR400 . -- www.MaximumSignal.Net |

| reply to jed1154 I may have to do that. I really hope this solves my problem of connectivity. I dont know how you can have full bars and not connect to the internet, but then go outside, away from the signal booster, have 2 bars and get screaming fast speeds. Do you know how this amp is 'different' than something like my zboost signal booster? |

| Cyfre amplifiers use patented technology . They use software driven amplification . They are the only amplifiers that actually communicate wiith the device and not the Cell Tower. In the process of amplifying the signal they use zero additional bandwidth and have no adverse effects on the cellular networks. You will see they are different once you start using it. -- www.MaximumSignal.Net |

join:2001-09-06 Hempstead, TX | reply to jed1154 Well, it definitely works. The problem is that i need more cable. With the amplifier, it will get me 0 - 1 bar in my office. I have to get the antenna outdoors! |

| Here is where to get more cable. Also make sure the magnetic mount antenna is on at least an 8 inch by 8 inch metal Ground plane . that can be anything like a pizza pan , filing cabinet , Baking sheet , refridgerater.

| reply to jed1154 The antenna was on a ground plane. Its just that inside my home, especially where my office is (of course) there is just no signal to amplify. Ill get more cable an go from there!
Is ALL RG58 cable considered LOW LOSS?? |

join:2001-09-06 Hempstead, TX | reply to jed1154 So i got my amp, and my LMR400 cable came in today. So for fun i hooked it up to the little antenna that came in the kit and attached that to the metal roof on my house.
I currently have a -78 - -80 dB signal.
So, thats good. |

| reply to jed1154 I know i didnt HAVE to buy LMR400, but i was concerned with the distance i might potentially have to run, and the last thing i want is for whatever little signal im getting to get lost before it gets to the amp.
So far so good. I did order the directional antenna, and im going to try it for fun, but it looks like i probably wont need it. Its a 13dB gain ant and others have used it with this amp and liked it. |

join:2001-09-06 Hempstead, TX | reply to jed1154 I have not tried that. The only thing i have tried is looking at the dB with everything hooked up and the amp turned OFF...that yields no signal at all. |

You will not get any signal pass thru with the amp turned off. You will need to take the amp out of your signal path to check signal level without amp. |
