Good catch. I sent an e-mail off. I'm kinda curious if WOW will do this with their entire network. FTTP will allow for much better flexibility and maybe help WOW stick it to Comcast and AT&T. It would be so nice to see FiOS speeds via WOW FTTP.

There's a lot of money to be made in selling to the SMB market. Up to about 18 months ago, I had a small office building with 15 tenants. Time Warner was aggressive in wanting to put broadband cable access in the building. I was pretty open to the idea of letting them string cable throughout the building until they told me that they wanted ME to pay the cost. So, the estimate was $4K to wire the facilities so they could sell their product to more customers.

I countered with the offer of free access if they would pay the wiring charge and they didn't bite. I ended up putting a DSL line in (many of the tenants already had DSL but rarely used it other than for email) and hooked up a couple of access points and gave everyone free internet. My cost was $35 a month.

I would guess not for a couple years. Although the price of this stuff has obviously come down, it has a long way to go before WoW can afford rolling it out to all or even some of their footprint.

True, but it also depends on how serious they are in competing and wanting to stay a competitor and not another company going out of business. They have to buy all the gear for FTTP to work, and since they already have it for the businesses, it only makes sense to start putting it into home, otherwise, that's a lot of capital spent for their smallest target or customers. They need to recoup the cash somehow, and that somehow would be the residential customers.

I read the article and it sounds promising, but is this only for businesses? I would assume it would be all over, but I would have no clue.
