Questions before switching to DSL Extreme

Hi, I'm current an Earthlink (EL) DSL member. My phone company is AT&T. I've recently moved to a new home and EL is no longer providing me, even close, to the speed I'm paying for. The problem I have now is that every time I use my home phone, the DSL disconnects. And it is very slow and in order to get connected and go online, I must manually configure IP, gateway, DNS server numbers in the modem.
My questions are:
1) Do I need to call AT&T to have them check on my phone line to make sure there's no problem internally with the line, before I sign up with DSL Extreme?
2) I'm in 92069 zipcode, how far am I away from DSL Extreme server, and estimately how solid can the speed possibly is with 6 MB order?
Thank you guys.

Zak is not around on Mondays and Tuesdays. He's one of the official DSLX techs in the forum. George is in and out the forum when time permits him.

You might want to post in our »Earthlink DSL about your current problem with Earthlink. There are no official techs in that forum but the members are very helpful.

Hi Dust_er,

From what you described it sounds as though the issue you are experiencing is more of a network issue rather than a line issue. When you lost your connection what is the status of the lights on the DSL modem?

If it is in fact a network issue on their end then when switching to DSLExtreme you would not experience the issue. If it is a line issue since we utilize the same phone line you may still have an issue. We would of course be very proactive in working with you and AT&T to help get any issue resolved.

Thanks
