Speedtouch upload cap help

Hi there, I have High Speed Xtreme with the Speedtouch ST516 v6 from Telus by swapping the Siemen router which sucks. However, when I test my speed on speedtest.net, my upload starts off good at 800kbps but when the test is at 70%, the upload drops suddenly and caps to 520kbps. How risky is flashing the firmware on this? And do you think Telus would let me swap if this one dies? Let me know how to do this step by step. Thanks in advance.

You could try flashing, but I wouldn't reccomend it. Just tell TELUS it died and get a new one, they'll never no, and its not like they cant afford it.

siberx helped me flashed it and I get upload speeds of 840kbps. It seems like its working perfectly but every time I turn on my utorrent, my upload starts going back to 520kbps (capping) even after I shut it off or restart the computer. It only goes back to normal when I do the "set up" all over again on the web admin screen on the speedtouch menu. I don't why it does that.

My ST516 is custom flashed and it does the same thing. It could be the modems or something on the CO end. Finding an old 300G won't work on Xtreme as they are not ADSL2+ compliant. You'd have to get the DSL-504T for that to work.

This is not entirely true - hooking a 300G up to a 6.0 connection will cause the line card on the other end to automatically fall back to ADSL1 mode, and if you have a fairly good connection you may in fact be able to still achieve a 6.0 sync. This all depends on the condition of your line though.

Its actually not my uTorrent causing the problem. It just randomly drops to 520kbps and it stays that way until I restart my modem in the web admin screen.

the 300g can in some situations produce a much faster upload on a 2+ port than a thomson.

What do you mean by in some situations? What speed do you have usually with the 300g?

i'm just saying its worth a try to borrow/buy a 300g to see if it fixes your problem.

on my line, both a dlink 300g and the thomson will sync at the proper spec of 6 down, 1 up. BUT the actual upload performance of the thomson utterly blows, about 40 to 50KB per second. the 300g however always gets upload speeds of 90 to 100KB per second.

so depending on your lines conditions, an old 300G might help.

I have seen a number of users report this - in some cases the 300g does give improved upstream rates on the 2+ ports compared to the thomson speedtouch. It's no guarantee however - just as many ports run full speed upstream with the thomson speedtouch units as not. Mine, for example, is always rock solid 100kB/s up with my speedtouch modem. Haven't had a problem or drop of upstream rates in a long time now.
