| New HDTV channels in Socal this fall
I just bought a HDTV last week, and called up Time Warner Socal to ask about their HDTV lineup. They told me that they are currently working to upgrade the network in the entire Socal Area (which is true, I received a letter about a month ago that they were going to work in the neighbourhood), and that a total of 20 new HD channels should be added by Fall 2008, and we should be getting a total of about 70 HD channels in 2009. (so that would be 30 or so more on top of the 20)
Sure, they are way behind DirectTV on that one, but I was just wondering if anyone in Socal has any more info, and happens to know which channels will be added? -- "Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both" - Benjamin Franklin, Founding Father. |

Evidently, bandwidth is No Problemo for TW except when it comes to English-language programming. I advocate that customers unhappy with the HD selection bear this in mind. |

Most of those Spanish channels they've carried for years, they're just grouped into a couple of tiers now and marketed more. About 13 of them are new and would basically be carried in one or two 6 Mhz QAM channels.
Makes sense if a HUGE part of their service area passed but unsubscribed are Spanish speaking.
In July, they're also launching a dozen English HD channels. That takes about six 6 Mhz QAM channels. Another dozen later in the year and another couple dozen next year.
So altogether TWC seems to plan on using about 24x more bandwidth for primarily English HD channels then the amount of bandwidth they using for the Spanish channels they're launching.
So what problem did you have concerning TWCs bandwidth allocation for English language programming again? |

| reply to MacLeech Mac, What amazes me is that TWC or ANY of the local operators that I have found, are not carrying any of the Spanish language local HDTV signals. KMEX and KVEA at least have some very aggressive HDTV offerings and promotion. Can it be a retrans consent issue at this point in time? I would think that Univision and NBC Universal would feel the carriage was worth more at this time than trying to nickle and dime the cable companies. At least we don't have to deal with Sinclair around here! |

| Honestly I don't think there is enough demand for it right now. TWC just started PUSHING a couple of tiers of Spanish programming to try and capture a large segment of the untapped subscribers around SoCal... maybe if that is successful Spanish HD won't be far behind. |

| reply to punker That's not FSN-West HD, they never carried FSN-West HD. The channel is called "TWC Sport Specials" or something along those lines. They happen to broadcast the HD broadcasts of FSN-West when a local team is playing, e.g. Angels or Dodgers, and the pre-game and after-game shows. But they do not broadcast any of the other FSN-HD content.
TWC does not have FSN-HD in their line up as far as I know. |

Cool. I live in Orange, always has been TWC so I should be good to go next week To bad it won't be this weekend, I'll be home for most of it.
I guess the Adelphia and Comcast networks needed more work?
OH, Can a mod change the topic title to "New HDTV channels in Socal starting this July!"

@rr.com | What about new areas that have only been TWC? I live in a neighborhood only 8 years old in Corona. I believe it's always been TWC. |
