| I can't get upgraded DSL speed
Help! I just can't figure this out, I just upgraded my account from 1.5 to 6.0 Mbps and I just can't that speed.
My neighbor and I both have 6.0 Mbps plans. He's with AT&T and easily and consistently gets download speeds around 5000 Kbps. Mine (Earthlink) are all over the place but average 1500 Kbps. See results:

It's not my house wiring - I disconnected the house, put the modem on a 1 foot phone cord to the Demarc and ran CAT6 Ethernet into the house and got exactly the same speeds.
It's not the line - At least they say it's not - AT&T came out and tested the line.
The speed is not capped - I can get download bandwidth of 4500 Kbps but not very often.
WinXP Ethernet: Lite-On Communications Compatible PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Modem: ZyXEL P-660R-D1 DSL PPPoE - I'm guessing the router not Windows TCP receive window: 65535 MTU: 1492 (but tested 1500 also)

| Does that modem have a status page that shows your signals and line rate?
If not, call Earthlink and ask for a signal check. Also asked them what the MODEM is syncing at. Also ask what the line speed is set at at the CO.
If you have a router, pull the router and test directly connected to the MODEM. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |
