| Am I wasting my money?
Hello! I just had a question about my CenturyTel DSL. I am currently paying for the 1500/320 internet service, but I am getting nothing close to this.
Transceiver Revision: 5.2.2.0 Vendor ID Code: 4 Line Mode: G.DMT Mode Data Path: Fast Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream Path DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 320 320 Margin (dB) 5.0 14.0 Line Attenuation (dB) 63.5 31.5 Transmit Power (dBm) 13.1 11.9
I have the Westel modem and a repair guy recently came to my house and said he fixed everything and it should all be running fine now. I have trouble doing anything online (watching a youtube video, even loading websites). If I run a speedtest at speedtest.net, I'm getting results that average about 220 kps upload and 280 kps upload to Springfield, MO (48ms ping). Is there any way I can get this 220 even close to the 1500 I'm paying for? If not, can I downgrade to the 256 package and still have the same speeds I have now but a lower bill?
Thanks for your help. |

Your margin is way too low, and your modem is only able to sync at 320k due to the low signal level. Your attenuation is also high, which tells me that you're at the bleeding edge for DSL service. Do you have everything hooked to the phone system filtered, including sat receivers and house alarms? |

@centurytel.net | reply to SlowInAR The only thing hooked up is one phone line, and it is filtered. |

| reply to SlowInAR The only other thing you can try is to plug a long phone cord into the test jack inside the NID (phone box on your house), and plug into your modem and check the stats again. If they don't improve, then there's nothing else you can do except get a tech back to your house when you can meet him. |

As his noise margin increases, so would the speed. However something (possibly distance) is keeping his margin in the bottom of the bucket currently.
The only way it would be a profile setting, is if on a prior ticket, a tech had programming dept. back the speed down, b/c it wouldn't be very reliable at all at any higher speed. |
