I have purchased an Alltel UTSTARcom UM150 and wanting to set up a homenetwork. I called Alltel and they said the only router that would work with it was the Alltel $299. Please advise.

That is pure Bull Hockey!!!!!! I have the UM150 as well. I've tried in in 2 different setups. The first time I set it up by plugging it into a USB port on my desktop. The desktop is connected to a Linksys 350N router. My son and daughter connected to the internet though my computer as I had it set up to use internet connection sharing. I have Windows XP, my son has a MacBook Pro, and my daughter has a Sony S360 laptop with a version of Linux running on it. The only problem with thi setup was that for some reason the internet connection sharing would "un-share" itself.

The second setup was by plugging the UM150 into my son's MacBook Pro and again used internet connection sharing. I and my daughter are both able to surf the internet at the same time by wirelessly connected to my son's computer. Now we also have the intermittent "un-sharing" problem with his MacBook Pro so the problem was not with Windows XP.

The ideal setup would be to use a router that has been pre-configured to allow the UM150 to act as a gateway. They are available but NOT REQUIRED.
