As for the rest of you, thank you for your helpful advice. I'll tell him it's just not worth the risk of missing his flight.
He wasn't really sure if he was going to LGA or JFK and having never been there myself I didn't know how flights were routed.

If he wants a good Italian restaurant that's only about a 6 minute detour along the trip from LGA to JFK, you've got the original "La Villa" restaurant in Howard Beach. They've since opened 3 or 4 others in Brooklyn. I can get you directions if you want.
