Further Problems

Recently the Pakistani government has asked the EU to ban free speech that is critical of Islam. I wonder how long it will take for the EU to capitulate (pardon the pun) and impose such a restriction.

It wont take long. That actress chick just got convicted in France for making racist remarks (how is that a crime?) when all she did was speak her mind on Islam. Freedeom of speech in th EU? I dont think so, the only place in the world with real freedom of speech is the US.

Damn

I suppose this means that the average Frenchman will no longer be able to order his toilet paper Korans online anymore.

Oh damn I suppose all of the sites devoted to food made from hogs, rabbits, and other unclean animals will be removed as well.

No wait French chefs will demand all McDonald's, and other fast food sites be band as being anti-French.

In many regards, the liberals who have been running the show in Europe have become "so open-minded that their brains have fallen out." Instead of expecting immigrants to assimilate to Western values that have been prevalent on the continent for the past 500 years, they have been moving backwards trying to get everyone else to accommodate a fast-growing minority of people who behave like it is still the 7th century.

Liberals running Europe? Is this as opposed to the heavy Handed Republicans who are sticking are freedoms back to the stone ages with things like the:

Patriot Act Removing our rights

Military Commission Act which doesn't allow access to courts (I was under the impression that people always had their day in court via the Constitution)

NSA wiretapping

Gay Marriage ban and the church DICTATING to people their views on others.

Abortion laws that prevent a WOMAN from making a choice about HER OWN BODY.

So humm.. Those damn liberals seem mild to those DAMN MORONS running things here.

The French have banned the use of the hijab (muslim female head covering) in schools. That also applies to to the Jews and the yamulkah the males wear and turbans that Sikhs use.

I've always agreed with you here. That's why I believe that the billions of people now imprisoned by the current regime for engaging in speech that has been banned by the Patriot Act should be pardoned and released immediately.

You're right. Every single US citizen being held in secret prisons, as well as Club Gitmo, should immediately have their cases handed into the civilian court system immediately.

Thankfully the Democrat congress put a stop to that. We no longer have to worry about NSA wiretaps now.

I know! How dare people vote their beliefs... they should all be shot!

Huh? Abortion is legal in all 57 states.

She didn't make racist remarks. The dhimmified nitwits charged her with making racist remarks.

As if bemoaning the loss of one's heritage and culture is racist!

Anyway judge for yourself:

In the December 2006 letter to Sarkozy, now the president, Bardot said

France is "tired of being led by the nose by this population that is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts."

Bardot, 73, was referring to the Muslim feast of Aid el-Kebir, celebrated by slaughtering sheep.

"The magazine has also had to engage legal counsel to deal with frivolous and unsuccessful actions launched by a homosexually "married" Toronto resident and disgruntled former Catholic seminarian"

here's where I have a problem with the article. The first paragraph already explains that the issues brought forth against the paper are largely from the gay community. The catholic church and the gay community have never seen eye to eye, so fine.
But to have the journalist quote "marriage" right in the article to make light of it, even though as of 2005 in the eyes of the law a marriage between a straight couple and a gay couple are no different, shows a bias in favour of the paper in question.

Technicalities aside, what right does anyone have to go and punish a person for saying something that someone else considered to be offensive?

none whatsoever. unfortunately it's written into both our constitutions (or at least canada's, can't be sure about the US) that anything you publish cannot direct hate towards a particular group so they have both legal recourse and precedent.
Do I agree with it? no. if you're anti-church, anti-government, homophobic, or just hate all those damn white/black/orange/yellow/indigo people and want to spout off about it go ahead. but I'm a minority in this PC age we live in.

I didn't know that... and it seems quite disturbing indeed.

No such restriction exists in the US Constitution. However, some speech, made by some people, is more "free" than speech made by others.

Here are the people you want to give Constitution rights too even though they do not have any rights to then. They are not citizens they are terrorist thugs. We heard very little about these murdered and incinerated Americans in Iraq where were their Consitutional Rights.

One other thing. There is a difference between "are" and "our." The above image should illustrate.

Typo. Live with it. Unlike you who might sit here analyzing everything you type in a grammatical sense, this is the internet. If this were a thesis paper, which I have done before, then that's a different story. Otherwise, I could care less about my typing. Stick to the issues and stop nit picking.

Listen sarcastic Nancy, you need to get that gerbil out of your proverbial ass and stop acting like a child with your replies. While the U.S. has generally not imprisoned people for free speech, it actually has. Do you remember the case where CNN reporters went to jail for failing to give their source to the Bush administration? I guess your sarcasm touched on a real issue. However, the most we are seeing is our rights being taken down one at a time. At this rate, I wouldn't put it past this government to actually start using such heavy handed techniques. After all, we are facing warrantless wiretaps and further scrutiny into our lives without oversight.

"Thankfully the Democrat congress put a stop to that. We no longer have to worry about NSA wiretaps now."

Well yes and no. So far they have not given the Telecom's immunity. Through your sarcasm, you probably don't appreciate that. However, I wish they'd actually restore America and get rid of the Patriot Act.

"I know! How dare people vote their beliefs... they should all be shot!"

I'll vote my belief that people with your ignorance and bias should be forced into hard labor. It's my belief and as long as I get enough people to vote with me, that makes it right?

"Huh? Abortion is legal in all 57 states."

57???? I'm not even nit picking your grammar but last I checked there are 50. If you want to count territories, then you have Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Island. You might want to reassess your point. The words FAIL come into mind here.

Yet we give rights to:

Timothy McVeigh who murdered a few hundred and injured serveral hundred more.

Charles Manson

Unibomber

Serial Killers

Child Rapists

Manuel Norega (Who we helped and allow sell drugs and also oppress his own people... until he decided not to help us any longer)....

And MOST IMPORTANTLY...

The Nazis who murdered 6 million people

ETC ETC...

See this is where logic fails you. It doesn't matter the monster you put on trial, just the fact he or she gets a fair one. Are you saying the U.S. should not hold themselves to a higher regard and we should act like those we wish to "STOP"? If so, then I guess the people who suicide bomb, video tape executions of our soldiers, and mame their fellow citizens over there are equally justified. After all, you want to put the defense that all is fair in love and war. If that's the case, then don't bitch about "those people". Those people you talk of were

A) Invaded by us
B) had nothing to do with 9/11 and
C) were members of a sovereign nation.

So if you really want to talk about terrorist states, take a gander at the U.S. We started this WHOLE mess in the first place that lead to the flood of people from all nations ENTERING IRAQ and using it as a staging ground for A Jihad. Before our FIASCO, Saddam had a stable country, albeit murderous and repressive. Yet, that is no different than many others around the world today.

Yes and Stalin killed 20 million of my fellow Ukrainian countrymen. But there is no point in discussing issues with somebody with a fossilized brain.
