[F@H] Q: Is this normal ?

New rig - so I'm trying out the ATI GPU2 beta client.

I understand that it needs one "core" of a CPU to deal with the communication/co-processing (my terms) with the GPU.

I was somewhat surprised to see 2x FAHCORE_11 showing up, and was wondering, if anyone knows, is that "normal" behavior?

CPU: AMD Phenom Agena 9550
GPU: ATI HD3870 (MSI)

It certainly runs through the WUs quickly..... 1.5 to 3 hours - don't know how "big" they are though..

Thanks !

I am not sure who knows, db. I have always been a GPU folder, but Stanford just rendered all of my GPU's obsolete.

Due to the cost that I invested in those X1900XTX cards, I will not be investing in another set of video cards, so I am now dead in the water.

The best place to ask that question strikes me as the folding community forum. There are folks following the whole beta project, and I suspect that any number of them could answer that question.

There may be Helixers also involved, but if so, I am not aware of that fact, and perhaps they could mention it if they are.

Edit: Would help if I added a link... sorry.

I am running that client as well and have only one instance of that core. (The core is consuming about 50% of CPU on a dual-core machine.)

I must have inadvertently started two instances. I shut the machine down the following morning (to let the TIM 'set' on the CPU core). I fired it up that evening, and only got one instance in task manager.

Thanks for the replies !
