Sheesh I wish I could just "take delivery of a full DMS... Just park it over there in the living room why don'tchya"
What model DMS by chance? Perhaps a full cataloged rundown of each module with full specs and commentary? OK I'm greedy.
Anything you can get for us would rock Laz! |

| reply to LazMan It took most of a tractor-trailer; between the bays, and hardware/cables/circuit packs.
It's a DMS-500 front end, with assorted peripherials. It'll be about 3 months to install, and another 2 months or so to test and turn up so I'll have lots of time to take pics...

| reply to LazMan Thanks for the pics so far!
As funny as it sounds, I'm surprised the DMS's are still brown. I would have expected that Nortel would have upgraded the look (well the colour at least) as they have with all their other products.
Edit: I guess the big question is do those devices have any Nortel branding on them whatsoever? There is on the VoIP rack, however the DMS seems pretty blank. |

The DMS has been "Maple Brown" (yes, that's the name) since it was launched... I have bottles of touch-up paint, for when stuff get's scratched...
As for the DMS bays - there are actually doors that go over most of it - they just won't be installed until after the cabling is completed. Everything is still branded "Nortel" - although it's never been very flashy...

This is to augment to an existing DMS in the same building; that's approaching 180k trunks - the switch maxs out at 200k, so we need to get the new one in service pretty quickly... |

Wayne -- If you cannot fix it with a buttset and some beanies you ain't a technician.

| reply to LazMan Im interested as to why all of the power cables are grey. Here in Aus we use red, blue and green (+, -, earth).
Seems as though some sort of colour coding would make it instantly perceivable as to what each cable does, rahter than having to trace it or look for tags or something. |

There's always been an issue with colour-coded wiring - we used to use red and black; but the arguments would go something along the lines of :
"Red is power, no red is positive; black is return, no black is negative"
We now use one colour (black or grey) and there's no more argument. |

Wayne It's a Nortel ground window setup - the black and green in the centre go back to the main ground; the 350 MCM to the left is the "logic" ground, the 4 to the right are frame grounds. |

We've done the exact thing. If you get someone in that is used to AC power and not DC, then there is also the argument (or friendly discussion) about return/negative power/positive.
We've just switched to completely using black (with labeling of course)
