|  House paint on my CAR paint!!!
I rounded a curve and drove right through a can of white paint that someone had apparently spilled right in the middle of the road (My car is black!). It had apparently JUST happened--the paint was still wet and fresh and no other tracks had been through it (lucky me!  )
I drove immediately to a wash bay (within 10 minutes) and tried spraying it off starting with tire degreaser/engine cleaner. It wasn't coming off well at all which leads me to believe it's probably an oil-based exterior paint. I tried high pressure soap wash, soaping brush and high pressure rinse and managed to get some of it off but there's still a lot on the paint.
It's splattered on my doors and particularly the under-trim which is plastic or painted plastic. The doors of course are painted metal.
Anyone know how I should go about trying to remove this crap or am I screwed and looking at an insurance claim and a visit to the paint shop?

Pierrefonds, QC | Now that it's dry you might be able to remove it with some buffing compound (and a lot of work). Failing that, I believe it does look like a trip to the paint shop.  |

I'd _not_ use compound or anything with enough abrasive to remove the white paint! You will also succeed in removing the surrounding clear coat.
Have you tried using bug remover? I'm pretty sure it has a little acetone or something like that in it. Either that or try some Goo Gone. But I'd be _very_ careful with this chemicals. I'd wash your car with soap and water as you go along. |

| I was testing Goo Gone about the time you were responding. I'd read on-line via a google search that it can work in some cases. I also tried WD-40 but it didn't even put a dent in the stuck on paint. 
Turns out Goo Gone really does the trick. It evaporates pretty quickly so it didn't appear to leave any residue on the car. I wiped it down afterward and followed up with some Zaino Brothers gloss enhancer to get some protection back on the clearcoat. In the end I considered buffing compound but figured Goo Gone wouldn't trash my paint any worse than using an abrasive compound to take it off so what did I have to lose?
I used white towels so I know it didn't remove any of the car's paint--only the paint intended to come off.
Guess I'll find out if there are any side effects later this year if my door paint starts peeling off. The Goo Gone also did a number in removing the natural oils from my hands! They're dry as a bone. 
I've still got some thick paint on the very bottom of the car body but I'm out of Goo Gone and I'm not going to mess with it tonight. The paint's not going to get any drier than it is so I'll finish it up tomorrow.

the clay bar seemed to work OK for areas that had sparse covering--like where the paint from the road misted up onto parts of the car, but it was no match for some of the lower areas where the paint was caked on. Guess I should have gotten a before picture--it was pretty ugly!

| I've got a random orbital buffer that I was prepared to try with your rubbing compound advice if the WD-40 and Goo Gone didn't work but I wasn't looking forward to testing that buffer. . . 
On my way back by the spill yesterday I'd noticed someone had poured sand over it and there were other tracks through it so I'm sure I wasn't the only one who spent the evening cleaning paint off the car.

I ran through a freshly painted lane marker (?) on the highway in my black Honda Prelude years ago... The paint was white, of course. The worst part was it splattered along the very lowest part of the door and rear quarter-panel where it has that spray-on, dimpled texture. I never did get it off... |

| The stuff you ran through may be even worse than what I ran through. That highway paint is designed to be durable out in the environment--the same sort of environment someone might be inclined to drive their car on. I too got the bulk of the paint on the trim under the doors as well as inside the fender wells. Heck even the tires are white but I'm not going to mess with them. I'm sure it will eventually wear off the rubber.
Black cars look nice when they're clean but man they're a bear to keep clean.
Of course in my case, if I'd been driving a white car, the paint would have been black. That's just my kind of luck.

I know a guy that tried that on a van he purchased that had a sign painted on it, he found out real fast(it removed ALL the paint) he was going to have to do it by hand, which he did, and the sign was gone but the paint under it had not sun bleached.
