I wonder if the many cellular holes around I-87 and other major roads in upstate NY will be covered now?
Perhaps, but this is really much more about filling in the holes in Rochester, Buffalo, and the Finger Lakes region to the south. This is the old Cingular territory, and "more bars in more places" is downright laughable in this area when you put Cingular's legacy network AT&T relies on next to Verizon Wireless area here. It's not even close.

Cingular really didn't have much more of a rep than T Mobile around here based on their network quality and reach. So AT&T has a lot of catching up to do.

As to the "upstate" region east of Syracuse extending into northern New York, expect only incremental improvements. Height restrictions and continued outrage by residents having to look at the silly fake pine tree antennas they build will always make cellular service problematic in places like the Adirondacks. No matter what you dress it up as, a treetenna rising well above the tree canopy of a lot of monocultured pine forests stands out like a sore thumb.

Then again, some companies barely even try. They erected a ridiculous fake cyprus tree antenna south of Rochester. Of course, cyprus trees don't exist in this area, so it stands out straight away. The only thing they didn't add to it was fake Spanish Moss drooping off the lower branches. Or they could have thrown up a nice tall "palm tree."

I must be the only human who never really notices these things. I wouldn't care if there was a big, tall cell phone tower in the farm north of me if it meant me getting full signal inside my house.

I never understood why some people have such a visceral aversion to technology that makes life a little easier. The hilarious part of it, of course, is many of these people whine just the same when their cell phones do not work.
