New Flood Lights less than 5 minutes old | After removal | Neighbors half of tree still standing. | | Roof repaired for now |
So I just finished installing new flood lights and was standing inside admiring my work through the picture window, checking the timer and feeling proud I got finished before the rain came when "it" hit. I turned and dove head first into the kitchen thinking this might be the end - then it was all over.
One limb - the baseball bat looking one - came through the back of a closet, through the closet door into the upstairs room with a tangle of original BX cable attached to it.
A company from Richmond (Pike) ran new wires from the pole to the house today around 1pm to restore power.
Didn't have to worry about the sump pump - no basement!! Some water damage mostly to wood floors and drywall ceiling and walls. I'll need a new front door, front window, front porch and will find out later about structure like rafters etc.
Dad (90 on the 29th) was at Camp Leewood daycare in Annandale so no one got hurt here. I'll bring Dad home on Monday after I get fridge and freezers emptied, cleaned and re-stocked.
Neighbors that lost a little over half of their pine tree have been in India for the last 2 months and may come home the end of this month. I have hated that tree for some time because of all the needles it drops clogging my gutters and killing the lawn. Glad to see most of it gone but wish it would have stayed on it's side of the fence!! |

| Sorry to see the damage - I was lucky this time here near College Park. It was some crazy weather that came up very quickly - I was very glad that Wednesday was a day that I didn't bike to work! -- Simple rules - no offsides, no intent to maim, everything else is all good! |

| reply to StanHaymarkt The most important thing is that you weren't hurt. Glad to see you didn't panic, used your head and got the hell out of the way!
Have you had the insurance company out yet? You should get an entire new roof, gutter replacement and interior damage replaced at the minimum. You should probably also have a structural assessment done to see if any of the frame was damaged.
A tree came through the upper gable end of my in-laws house in TN within a couple of years of them buying it. The insurance company ended up paying something like $70K in repairs and hotel bills. He paid $90K or so for the house. But in that case, the damage was quite extensive.
Good luck on your repairs and dealing with the insurance company. |

| reply to StanHaymarkt My work is located on Fairview Park Dr, just off of Rt 50. A couple people said they could see the funnel cloud from our window. They had us stay in the stairwell until it was over. -- RIP my baby Buttons 1/15/94-2/9/07 Buttons, Buttons video
