[Troubleshooting] Disconnects

I am on the trial period for Alltel and am happy with the speed 1286/296 but I am experiencing frequent disconnects.
I have -80 dBm or lower most of the time and was told this was a good signal.
My question is, would an amplifier kit help me stay connected without so many disconnects? I am planning to network three computers thru a Cradlepoint router and it would be a big pain getting disconnected all the time and having to reset the router. I am unable to get cable or DSL and my dialup was at snails pace (Less than 24 kbps) so this is our only hope.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

An Amplifier would definitely help . But With the signal level you already have I do not feel it is needed . A good omni directional antenna mounted outside should help your situation.

Max,
I have a decent signal, and yet I get frequent disconnects. Now, my POS LinkSys router is partially to blame since it can't reconnect without a reboot, but I was thinking about a Yagi. I currently have the Wilson trucker.

If you have line of Sight to the tower a Yagi is an option . Keep in mind Yagis take time and patience to aim properly . If you do not have line of sight you are better off with an omni directional antenna

I have the same issue, which is getting worse of late-frequent disconnects. I do have a booster and my speeds usually are around 200Kb, whereas my dial-up was 20-35Kb. I posted a few days ago about this also. Anyway, my external antenna is the Z-boost one and I was thinking about getting a yagi instead. I do live in a wooded area so I can't actually see the tower, but it's about 3 miles away as the crow flys, and wondered if I aim it that way, if my signal would be stronger and speeds increase. If I drive near the tower with my laptop-I do get much faster speed. Maybe max-signal, or hdman have some ideas or opinions?
