Verizon Aquisition

Will this mean that we will have a 5GB cap as well?

This really blows. I just got this service two months ago and now I'm locked into a 2 year contract. I didn't sign on for limits.

I don't think these wireless companies should be able to put such a ridiculous cap on internet usage. If you spend any amount of time on the net you'll reach those caps.

I understand that in heavily populated areas there might be issues, but I live in the country and I'm probably one of about 5 customers that use the service.

What do you guys think of this, what is your average usage per month and how will the effect you?

I am very concerned about this merger. I can't help but feel they will cap us. It will get really hard to do much of anything on line if we all have caps. Why can't they be specific about what shouldn't be allowed and what would be allowed. I watch Youtube videos a couple of times a day and watch streaming political town hall meetings or rallys and surf and that's about all.

I am more worried about the calling features just as well as the Internet.

Things that worry me about this merger is:
-Will Verizon impose caps?
-Will Alltel's My Circle feature be carried over post merger?

Good things:
-Alltel customers will have access to Verizon exclusives
-Alltel customers will have access to Verizon handsets

But I did notice this bit in the Yahoo! article:

Verizon Wireless did not specifically address coverage questions, but spokesman Jeffrey Nelson said, "The great benefit of this relationship is to bring the best of each company together. For consumers, that means improved network coverage and reliability."

VERIZON MAY NOT CHANGE ANY OF ALLTELS SERVICES THAT ARE CURRENTLY IN PLACE AT FIRST,BUT OVERTIME EVERYTHING WILL BE CHANGED MUCH LIKE THE SPRINT/NEXTEL MERGER.ONE BRIGHT AREA WILL BE THE SWITCH TO REV A.

I don't know how Verizon's cap works but when I was with HughesNet I only got Fapped one time. I was very careful not to go over the daily limit and barely used half of what I could have used because I wasn't sure what would put me over. If it is a monthly total that would be easier to handle then a daily total. I wonder if a person could use their cell phone if a person gets close to the allowed amount if a cap happens. Can a Verizon customer check their usage in real time?

With Hughes it was 375mb a day before we would be fapped. It really isn't that hard to hit. And with a 5gig a month cap it wouldn't take long at all to hit.

I only remember having a 200 a day mb limit. I would check the usage stats but it didn't keep up very well. I got to a point where I barely did anything and kept it around a 100 MB a day. If it would have carried over that would have been better but you just lost what you didn't use.

Our plan was 375mb for the Pro Plan I believe. I don't remeber exactly (I try to forget about Hughescrap) But with a couple of bigger downloads you can get in trouble fast. A 5gig cap with Verizon will be a problem for many people on here.

5gig a month is only 175mb a day.

That's worse then what hughesnet offered.

I'll cancel as this is a breach of contract and demand a refund of service. This bandwidth limit junk is absurd. Landlines don't force limits and that's all wireless is. A landline connected to a tower to broadcast it. So why the heck are they putting limits? To pinch every penny they can out of people. It's exploiting the market and I'm sick of that attitude.

What I am hoping is that this deal doesn't go thru until we have a Democrat as President. The abuses of consumer's rights because of money for companies and no consideration for the consumer really needs to change. Living in the country doesn't mean we should have less rights then people who live in a heavily populated area. Rural folks are not second class citizens.

I agree entirely. I'm sick of being taken advantage of, because I don't live in a crowded crime filled nasty city.

I like to be able to look out my window and see a couple acres between me and my neighbor.

I shouldn't be charged more because of that.

Landlines are just at the end of my street. So hopefully they'll expand very very soon and I won't have to be a part of this garbage. If that happens then I feel very sorry for all you that will have no choice.

I truly doubt you will see ANY changes for at least a year, and probably more. The deal will take until the end of 2008 just to get approved. If they impose a cap, or change your contract at all, you have an "out" and go where ever you want, regardless of how long you have left in your contract.

I agree it will take time for changes to come. I just checked again this morning and AT&T dsl might finally be available in our area. I am glad that if a cap happens people might have another alternative by then. There wasn't a choice when I got Direcway - HughesNet.

I agree. This really bites. I just left HughesNet because of slow downloads and their cap on downloads. If Alltel/Verizon institute a 5GB/month cap then I may have to go back to HughesNet. I still have the equipment installed. Hopefully they can not make a change for another 22 months as that is what I have left on my contract.

I've been looking at my session logs recently on Quick Link Mobile and I use over 200 MBs a day. I like to watch a couple Youtube videos on most days. I sometimes like to listen to iTunes radio. I like to watch a live political event now and then and the rest is normal surfing. I think of Youtube as normal surfing anymore. I understand peer to peer downloads but Youtube is very important to many people. Since people want speed and to be able to use the Internet in the ways we have become accustomed can't someone created a better way of storing and delivering bandwidth to people? Maybe the deal with Verizon won't go thru and we won't have to worry about a cap. Is anything about this problem being addressed in any Bills in Congress? Maybe the new administration will need to step in or maybe the ACLU. We pay good money for our connection and we shouldn't be worried that we won't be able to use the Internet like most people can with high speed connections. Many people will be retiring soon and they will be online more then ever. We do need this issue fixed soon.

ok guys so here is the official word per my district sales manager. according to him, if you are in a contract with us (alltel) then verizon will legally have to honor that contract and your rate plan. this includes features like mycircle and other voice plans as well. now, as far as what features terms and calling plans they will adopt at the time of merger is still up in the air.

as an alltel employee, i think both sides have different stories about whats going to happen with our products. many details are up in the air. hope this helps.

In that contract it says that mycircle can be removed at any time. So mycircle can be removed and the contract is still honored.

But here is a better answer from Alltel to the 5gb cap...."Verizon must honor Alltel's terms and conditions, which includes those for data cards.

Please note, however, that our current data card program does not allow for unconditional unlimited usage!"

I for one had Verizon for 3years (excelent c/s). I then bought a house 25 miles outside of Wichita, Ks. (2 miles from Verizon coverage into the FCC regulated Altell network)
Incidentally I had unknowingly moved into a "fringe" area. After about 8 months I found out that Altell had the FCC licensed area. I had called and Altell rep lied and stated that I would get better service. So I was able to be released out of the Verizon contract (no ETF's). To my dismay Altell service was even worse. I now owe ETF's for Altell even though that area is within their footprint, on top of that they can't even give a customer a straight answer as to their own towers!! Here is the support process:
From Apr 04-Aug 06 = Happy customer
From Aug 06-July 07 = Concerned customer
From July 07-Jan 08 = Unhappy/disgruntled/Lies with Altell
Feb 08 - Mar 08 = Happy to be back with Verizon
Mar 08 - presently living in Sprint area still good with Verizon
For what it is worth I hope and pray that Verizon CLEANS the Altell HOUSE!!!!!~!!!!!

Alltel has been pissing me off lately. My connection has been AWFUL at some critical times of the day this whole month. It's very aggravating, but it's this or satellite/dial-up. So I have to put up with the BS.
