| New News Server Farm
We launched a new news server farm for testing yesterday. Thus far we have gotten positive responses from the clients I tested with. I would therefore like to open it up to everyone for testing purposes. If you would like to try out the new server farm you can do so by changing your server settings to news4.dslextreme.com. Your authentication will remain the same. You will of course need to reset and update your groups.

| Nice! after adding news4.dslextreme.com to my Newsbin Pro, I now can open 6 connections total (by using 3 dslx accounts!) and just download 700 MB of data to test... and all I gotta say is... sweet!
Guys, do yourself a favor and give Newsbin Pro a spin! |

So far I can see a distinct difference between news and news 4. More groups (although not as many as advertised with Newsguy, my other provider), and a better throughput for headers.

Why are certain nodes being blocked from news4? I get 502 node blocked error.

| I was getting 502 node blocked errors on Road Runner today as well. Never seen that one before.
(TW and DSLX are using the same news service provider, which is why that's relevant. ) |

but...
news4.dslextreme.com gives me the following "Access denied to your node" message:

I thought I'd jump in and let you know the speed I am getting from 2 connections. I have a 1.5MB/384K speed and actually am getting 2 MB on speed tests. Using Grabit 1.7.1 Beta and connecting to the news4.dslextreme.com account I am getting ~94KB/s I still have Road Runner connected so I hooked up that computer to the news.dslextreme.com server and downloaded at ~680KB/s. I enabled the other 4 DHCP IP addresses and tried accessing another wireless network that my neighbor has but I got the 400 error message saying my per user connection limit has been reached. How are you guys getting more than 2 connections? Does anyone know if DSLExtreme is getting worse and is going to make any changes to improve? This limit on speed has got me concerned about my decision to switch. I'm hearing Giganews but the pricing is a bit high. Anyone recommend a cheaper news server? I signed up to DSL Extreme just because they have free news servers but I'm not so sure how good free is at the speed we are allowed to download at. |

Constant stalling
I tried news4 and it stalls for long periods of time, just the same as news does. Ping is fine. Sometimes one connection stalls for minutes but another connection works fine. As usual, canceling the stalled request causes me to get "Too many connections" errors for a while. |

I like the fact news4 had all the posts in any of the groups I live in where posts were missing or a day late. And after news4 went online and I was using it, I get a node banned error. With any news client......What gives? |

I'm getting some 502 errors too. Hmm I think this news provider is getting flakey.
However, between the "news" and "news4", I've had much more success with news4, only 2 times did i get the 502 error |

I think am going to change the primary news.dslextreme.com to use the server farm that is currently tied to news4.dslextreme.com. This may require that people reload their groups though. |
