Speed test
Hello All, this just a note to say thanks for the info and insight I have picked up in this forum over the years. I have had to use Hughes for roughly the last 4 years. As bad as I believe Hughes to be even if you have no other option. It is great to have a forum like this to have questions answered. Really nice that everyone in here types in clear English, something not offered by talking to Hughes support.

I recently worked with a WISP (»www.wifi45.com) near my home and with a little money and many hours of labor we raised a 120' tower on my land. I have a 13 mile back-haul and we are pumping 5.8 Mhz and the signal, strength, speeds couldn't be better. The cost of the tower was the hardest part to over come. But in the end it was well worth. I encourage all of you to continue to look for options outside of satellite. This internet thing is great when you have service that works.

Did you end up under or over $10,000 to set this up?

Congratulations! I think it will be well worth it for those kind of speeds. Came very close to getting a 100' tower here, but then dsl came along and so I didn't need to in the end. (but I'm only getting a 512kbps up connection / 3 mbps down so I still envy your speeds!)

I got REAL lucky on the cost. The tower cost me $3000 (Alambamatower.com). The cement was another $600, misc supplies were probably another $300 to $400. The tower is almost 600 feet behind my house, so there's 600' electric wire, conduit, ditch witch, etc etc. The guys that put up the tower let me help them with the labor and gave me a super price for labor. Since they are also the WISP and the price was so good, I'd rather keep that number under my hat. But the total was under $6000. I provide electricity and get as you see a high end account.

A kid in a candy store is a good description of how I feel.

HolySh_t!!! 4833 kb/s????? At first glance I didn't even realize that was a speed! Holy Moly. I am so depressed sitting here, wanting to watch a few video tutorials and having to schedule the download for midnight and being happy that I can do that because I remember what life was like before the free three hours. Please, someone bring me something better than HughesNot.
Very happy for you! Congrats.
