Mac Airport - Wireless connection to Actiontec

We own a 17" iMac with the built-in Airport. Ever since the firmware update on the VZ Actiontec in the Dec/Jan timeframe, I have had a difficult time connecting the Mac wirelessly to the Actiontec. In 90% of my trials, it takes about 10 minutes of turning on and off the Airport and I finally establish a connection and everything is kewl. The 2nd most annoying thing that happens is if I go away for 20 minutes or so and come back, the wireless connection is dropped.

If anyone has experiences like this to share or advice, that would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have Interference Suppression turned off.

Which revision of the router do you have?

I'm been having the exact same problem with all of my Apple wireless gear in my house since Verizon sent me a crappy refurb revision A to replace my practically DOA Rev. D that came with my installation.

If we can find a common link here, we may be able to have Verizon/Actiontec do something about it. I was gonna call and have them come out and run a Cat5 line so I can use my old Linksys router until this all gets sorted out.

One thing that does work though - if you open the network system preferences and click on "Assist Me" and then "Diagnostics..." and re-enter in your network information there, it does something and it immediately begins to work again.

It will cost you to have VZ come out and run cat5 to the ONT for you. If you are capable of running it yourself, there is no need for VZ to send a truck out. Simply connect a cat5 cable then break the DHCP lease on Actiontec before replacing it. Or you could put the Linksys behind the Actiontec.

You might also try calling FSC again and see if they will replace the refurb Rev. A router with a Rev. D router. Be sure to tell them you have a Mac airport and are having problems with the Rev. A router.

Even though both versions of the router run the same firmware, I believe there were some hardware upgrades (the Atheros wireless card) in the Rev. D router. I think there are some other posts about the Rev. D router fixing problems with the Mac Airport.
Try searching the forum for posts on the Airport.

thanks all...I will check on the revision of the Router, which is really not the culprit here, my thought would be to go back one or two firmware versions and test that. However in my extesive research here, VZ forces you to autorun the latest f/w even if you set the router to not do auto-upgrade.

I have had the same AT device since 5/07 and it has worked since then. Just yesterday, the same exact time frame..10 minutes and whamo I can wirelessly connect to the router.

More Fiber - A technician from the FSC said they'd be able to have a Cat5 run for me for free because of all the issues I've had (and because it came from executive appeals - which is nice).

Regardless, yes, I am definitely going to try to have them send me a Rev. D. first. This third, yes you read that correctly - third, time around, the guy told me he couldn't specify which revision to send. If they say that again, I guess I'll have to get a supervisor or something.

This is humorous - Verizon just called me to ask how things were right as I was calling them. They're sending someone out on Sunday to give us a Rev. D. of the router. Hopefully all will be well!

The only way to disable the automatic update is by editing the configuration file.

Wow so how about they were supposed to come today, and when I called they told me the appointment was for tomorrow. I told them that was a load of malarky because I wrote down on a post it note, and I qouted the guy, "Sunday, June 1st, sometime before five o'clock." They said they'd have to reschedule - next Saturday we'll be getting a new router. For sure I"ll be calling Ryan in our local billing office and see what more he can do for us. We waited around here all day long!
