[HELP] PPPoe on FTTH probolem

Hello,

I am trying to setup PPPoe connection on new FTTH line for a few days now :( I have already tried examples from forum FAQ and Cisco site. Unfortunately router Cisco 871 can not establish connection to ISP. Setup is following:
internet --- FTTH modem (Router) -- Cisco 871 -- LAN

FTTH modem is stetup in PPPoe bridge mode.

Config Cisco 871:

Debug message is showing following

Any idea what could be wrong?

Thank you and kind regards, M

Try "debug pppoe events" and paste the output here.

You mention in your little "diagram" that the FTTH modem is a "router"... is it actually a router and youve just stuck your 871 behind it?

In that case, you'll have to configure it as a bridge so that it is transparent.

Otherwise, are you sure that you have the correct username/password? The ones which you have in the config which you posted are very short. Normally there is a realm (i.e. domain name, and the username is in "email address" style format), but some still do it without.

Well, there is one thing you can do to verify if it's configuration issue on the Cisco or if it's equipment/ISP issues. I'm sure you can call you ISP and they can show you have to configure your PC (if it's Windows XP or higher) to directly connect to the modem and perform the PPPoE authentication using Windows PPPoE client. This will at least let you know that everything is working from the ISP all the way to through the FTTH modem to a host past the modem. If it works, then it's at least narrows down any possible problems with the ISP and their equipment and then you can focus on the Cisco configuration. If it doesn't work then there is some troubleshooting with the ISP that needs to be performed.

Username and password are correct, because I have tried them with Windows Vista PPPoe dialer and it worked. I have also called ISP but they sad that they do not offer support except for the router they provide :(. On ADSL line above configuration worked.

On curent modem/router from ISP is following configuration:
"Internet Access is provided by DSL (PPPoE bridged). "

debug pppoe events

mocah See Profile, when you followed this following PPPoE sample configuration

»Cisco Forum FAQ »Quick Guide of Configuring Cisco router for PPPoE using external modem

then on the bottom you should notice a PPPoE troubleshooting link. Use the link as guidance to troubleshoot further.
