notebook batteries

I was wondering I recently bought a replacement battery for my acer aspire. It is a 8 cell battery but i only get like 1 and a half hours out of it. Is there any free tool than can tell me if all the cells are working? Because I thought I would be able to get like another hour out of it.

Hmm, I don't know about a battery measuring program...maybe someone else here does?

For an 8 cell battery, I agree, sounds like far too little run time. Of course, a lot of it matters as to how/what you are running while under battery power. A lot of disk access will really cut down your run time.

If your Acer is low on ram, say around only 1gb, just adding ram will actually gain you a bit of run time, as you will cut down on hard disk access.

Do you use this, AdamB? I'd like to get your take/experience with it!

Yeah I've used it on all my Windows based laptops. It's a great little tool. You have to select a setting to view all of the options because it has advanced tools you can use. The features I use it most for are to keep track of battery cycles and wears as well as keeping tabs on hard drive and cpu temperatures.

NHC is an extremely robust and powerful tool that a lot of people have been using. I certainly use it, and I would certainly recommend it if you're interested in using something low-level (if you want), but also readily easy to use. It's a great tool.

Not Adam, but I use it on my XP machines - for various reasons.
A series for cranking the thing down and for battery info(4 year old battery).

AR series so I can trick it into playing a blu-ray while on battery.

Don't have it on this Vista machine... yet.

I just downloaded it and giving it a test run if it does good I'm keeping it, if not what I expected I'm deleting it.

Yep, dl'd it and am using it now. Looks like a very useful utility, no "downside" to it that I can see so far!
