Windows 3.1

So I installed 3.1 on vmplayer because... well I guess I was bored. But I was surprised at how easy it was. I remember when I got my pc with 98 on it (400mhz PII) and it had the fastest cpu available. I was blown away when my 486dx2 that it replaced booted up much quicker. I guess I'm just amazed that a full fledged OS can fit on a few floppies. Memories..

I remember when I had an Aptiva 535 which came with Windows 3.1 and even with the recovery CD, you had to install the Aria sound drivers with the provided floppy afterwards.

Use WfWg 3.11 and you get all that for free.

From Autoexec.bat

c:\
cd\
cd network
LH lsl.com
LH 3c5x9
ipxodi.com
odipkt 1 96
winpkt 96

Now as long as you have a BOOTP Router and Trumpet Winsock, you can make your Internet connection inside of Windows 3.1 work.

Well here's the thing... I have wfw but its not in floppy form. It's just all the files in a zip. I think I got my nostalgia fix though

I wonder if anyone has ever tweaked 3.1 and added USB support and just done wonders with it

I added Aero to Program Manager and got it to recognize 500GB SATA drives.

I still have the original floppies and DOS 6.2 as well as 25 or so Windows 95 floppies here somewhere...LOL

I have a Visicalc install diskette floating around here somewhere. DOS 6.2 is still available on Technet (Win 3.11, too!).

Cool! I'm on disk #3 of MSDOS 6... Can't wait to get my MemMaker installed! I would install DOS 6.2 but they say it's the next ME!

Hmmmmm... Express or Custom... Since I'm not too familiar with those new fangled mice, I think I'll opt for Express.

[EDIT] All done... The one thing I can't get used to is the "-" button button on the left.

I came into the picture a little later than you guys but, those were the days Windows 95 and dial-up on a Compaq Presario with 16MB of RAM and a 1.4 gig hard drive that cost over $3000. Waiting and hoping for the modem to connect to America Online. Web pages taking forever to load.
