| [Help] Can't Erase Locked Folder/Files.
In trying to make a folder on my computer more secure, I download a application called "Folder Lock"
But, something went wrong, and the folder name was changed to ______: and became unopenable.
Using a file recoverry software I was able to find and copy to a safe place the hidden files. However, the original 400MB folder is still on the hard drive and can't be erased/renamed/moved.
Evert time I try I get:
"Cannot delete _______: Cannot find the specified file. Make Sure you specify the correct path and filename."
Or
Cannot Delete File System Error (1026)
I have tried everything that "Folder Lock" has told me to try, but, the folder is still on my computer.
I have even resorted to something called PTS DiskEditor to view the raw data on the drive. It does not seem to work either.
I hope that someone here has a solution short of reformatting the drive. |

| Thanks, But!!!!
I have read and tried the Microsoft solution(s) and they don't work.
I tried erasing in both Safe Mode and in DOS. No effect.
I tried Unlocker, but, it does not work under Windows 98. I tried version 1.0 and all I got was the "unlocker caused a fault in....."
Is there any hope that anything short of a reformatting can be used to get rid of my mistake? |

| reply to Mainframe Will some sort of PE disc, or Knoppix maybe, that runs from memory possibly be able to read and remove/delete the pesky folder/file since it will not be being used?
*NO IDEA HERE*: Will some sort of "Eraser type" of program that is bootable have the option to select a single file/folder and blow it out? -- Think outside the Fox... Opera |

| Maybe Dr. Delete - Maybe Not!
I tried it, but, by the time it rebooted it was still there.
Only if there was way to delete it when file recovery softwhere finds it.
Ot, I don't mind using a disk editior like PTS Disk Editor, however, it whould be nice If I know what I sm doing!! |

| reply to Mainframe Is the folder quite literally names "______:"? (That is, is the name a bunch of underscores followed by a colon - but without the quotes?). The colon would be illegal, which might be what's messing things up. What might work in that case is to use deltree or rd with a wildcard mask from a command prompt - something like "deltree ___*" or "rd ______?" (with the proper number of underscores in the case of the latter).
(rd only works on empty directories. deltree works on non-empty directories and subdirectories, so be careful with it: If your mask is too general, you can delete a lot more than you intended.)

| reply to Mainframe Shot in the dark here, but does Folder Lock have a service running? If so, try stopping the service and attempt to remove the file.
Have you tried uninstalling Folder Lock and deleting file? -- Hike up your skirt a little more, and show your world to me. |
