| Looking for a laptop
I want a laptop. I got my eye on a few refurbished ones from future shop.

Just a suggestion: check out Dell Small Business Outlet (www.dell.com, choose Small & Medium Business, then scroll down for the Dell Outlet link).
They've usually got some good prices on business-grade systems that were cancelled orders, returns, or scratch & dents. All have the full warranty (for a notebook, I always have clients get the three year NBD onsite plus the additional "whatever you do to the darn thing" repair coverage).
The reason I recommend SMB is you get US-based support if you need it, and the equipment is also standard, higher-grade components. The stuff from the consumer/home office channel is OK, but components can have issues because they are whatever is cheaper.

| The HP dv6628us would appear the best overall value. No reason to buy a notebook with anything less than 2gb nowdays.
I am not a big fan of refurbished laptops however. All too often these are refurbs due to multiple problems, and not all the issues always get caught.
Not saying that it "can't" be a good deal, but I would frankly, be very wary.

Can you be more specific as to names of games? Older games is pretty vague.
One of the 7XXX series graphics chips would probably be your best bet but whether it will be enough depends heavily on more specific information on the games you are talking about. |

| The Nvidia 7150, or Intel X3100 are your best bets amongst integrated graphics. At fairly low settings, you should be fine, but yes, none of these models listed are anything close to being "gaming" notebooks...but as long as that is not a life/death focus for you, no biggie.

The graphics will be the most important issue for you. The other aspects of any of the systems is adequate for school use. |

I would look elsewhere . 90 day warranty on those amd compaq is asking for trouble / like another poster said , look at dell small business .
those AMD ran hot and had plenty of MB and wireless problems , 90 day warranty does not instill confidence in the product |

The 65mm process AMD Turion TLs (such as the TL-56/58/60) do run reasonably cool, however. Certain HP/Compaq models (not all) did have a pretty wide-spread wireless issue, which resulted in an extended warranty. I would at least check out HP's forum and make sure as to whether a given model that you are looking at is one of 'em or not!
Actually, almost any model laptop, in a given "run" (usually 3 to 6 months at the max), will occasionally run into a glitch like this...I've seen no manufacturers who have been free of this, and any time you are looking at a notebook, be it new, or "refurb.", it pays to check out support forums and see whether there is only the generally "small gripes", or if there is an indication of a wide-spread flaw in a given model number.
For example, some of the HP dv66XX series, in the earlier runs, did have some wireless issues, but later models in the dv66XX did not. It pays to do your homework, be it new, or used!

I bought a refurbished Toshiba Satellite P205 series. It is swwweeeet! It was kind of sluggish in the beginning, but I cleaned up some of the Vista crap that was bogging it down and now it runs like a top.
