| reply to Pakapab Re: [Installer] What is the best way to become an independent in
I can't speak for the recent two years, but in the past I was disappointed by the shallowness of the starband online training. I was a bit shocked when they said (paraphrased) "tip: keep one browser window open so you can browse for the answers while completing the test in a second window." Now if the questions were really technical, even as much so as many of the questions on this forum, so they required research, that would be one thing. But they were so basic that it seemed surprising they wouldn't expect their installers to know the answers without hesitation (or cheat sheet.)
But at least they provided it.
I really wished that all the satellite companies provided their full tech reference and knowledgebase for installers on their public websites for anyone to read, research, and learn. The nature of satellite providing connectivity for rural people, distributed wide distances from eachother in many cases, to me means that if someone has an interest in learning the details of installation, more power to them and it's in everyone's best interest. Plus even if someone doesn't want to install for a living but just learn the basics, it not only helps them but also the company/installer to have the customer knowledgeable instead of stabbing in the dark. -- Very happy TDS DSL user | Wildblue in Lake Michigan |
