Did you get any other error, e.g., "access is denied?" If so, see the solution that worked for me: »Re: [XP Pro] Windows XP Pro SP3 Installation Report.

Also, googled you error code to here: »www.microsoft.com/communities/ne···oc=en-us

or

Error Code:8007F0CC happens if you have changed your "boot.ini" file.

Have you created a custom boot screen, or have you used software such as Style XP to
alter your boot screen?

If you are using Style XP upgrade to the latest version. If you altered the
"boot.ini" file yourself and made a custom boot screen, just replace "boot.ini" with
the backup you made before editing it.

Did you alter boot.ini with Tune Up Utilities? Plus, your attached error message image shows that you have change themes also which is the Styler 2 from Tune Up Utilities.

The fact that other Windows Updates did not show a problem is not relevant to the case of Service Packs. Service Pack 2 would have thrown the same error.

You have to edit boot.ini and remove the "/Kernel" switch that is now on the startup line.

Are you able to revert the change to the boot screen via the TU Utilities program?

If so, try that and after SP3 installs you can change it back.

I was having the same problem hayc59 See Profile is having and thanks to bcastner See Profileand the link he provided i found out that Tuneup Utilities was what was causing my XP SP3 update to not install, so i followed the instruction at the Microsoft link and what d you know SP3 installed without a hitch. Thanks hayc59 See Profile for posting and thanks bcastner See Profile for the link.
