| Did you get any other error, e.g., "access is denied?" If so, see the solution that worked for me: »Re: [XP Pro] Windows XP Pro SP3 Installation Report.
Also, googled you error code to here: »www.microsoft.com/communities/ne···oc=en-us -- "Windows is for boys, Linux is for men, OSX is for adolescents." Attributed |

Error Code:8007F0CC happens if you have changed your "boot.ini" file.
Have you created a custom boot screen, or have you used software such as Style XP to alter your boot screen?
If you are using Style XP upgrade to the latest version. If you altered the "boot.ini" file yourself and made a custom boot screen, just replace "boot.ini" with the backup you made before editing it.

| reply to hayc59 The fact that other Windows Updates did not show a problem is not relevant to the case of Service Packs. Service Pack 2 would have thrown the same error.
You have to edit boot.ini and remove the "/Kernel" switch that is now on the startup line.

If so, try that and after SP3 installs you can change it back. |
