| [Wireless] Dell Inspiron / Linksys WRT54G connectivity problem
Hi Guys:
I've got an Dell Inspiron 8600, Windows XP SP2, connected to a Linksys router wrt54g v2.2. I had used it for almost 5 years w/o any problem until someone decided to change my router wireless configuration from a WAP to WES security. For some reason it messed my laptop connection. My main issue is i cannot connect to an specific page from the first try, websites like gmail.com, google.com, yahoo.com, i have to access them and hit the refresh button (f5) 3-5 times depending on the site for it to load and load correctly. Applications like WIndows Live Messenger, Skype and Ares dont connect inmeadiatly and if so work with problems. My connections drop from time to time, not only when it is idle.
The interesting thing is that my laptop works well with any other router, and any other laptop works well with my router. So it's definitly a problem with the interaction with both.
I downloaded the latest firmware for the router, and switched the security back to WAP.
I've got this problem for 3 months now and still havent found a solution. Hope someone could help me.
Thnx in advance. Manuel. |

I take it you meant WPA and WEP for the types of wireless encryption. Why would someone change you from WPA to WEP when WPA is far better in terms of security?
As for your connection issue, have you tested your connection via a wired connection to your router? Have you tried power cycling your router? Have you tried resetting your router (this will return all router settings to factory defaults)? |

Make sure you check the box to allow window to manage the wireless connection and remove the dell utility |

| Try going into Network Connections, Right-click on the wireless icon, click on Wireless Networks. Under Preferred Networks, see if you have your SSID and if so delete it. Close all the windows and refresh the available wireless networks to give it a try. |

| reply to loudbliss How about if you connect your wireless laptop directly to the router, do you have the same problem?
Or have you already tried connecting the laptop directly to your modem and see if you do have the same problem?
After upgrading the firmware of the router, did you perform a hard reset on it and reconfigure it? (hard reset is by holding the reset button of the router for 30 seconds, power it off while holding the reset button for 15 seconds, then power it on and release the reset button).
Also, it may help if you will uninstall and reinstall the driver of your wireless adapter. |
