[DW7000] Signal Jumpping up and down

Any installers or people on IA 89 West? I've been having problems with my signal jumpping from in the 50s to mid 40s sometimes into the 30s. I've checked around the dish no tree branches have grown in the way and the wires are all checking out. Haven't had this problem before been using the same unit for 3 years now. Even checked the Dish pointing and it's solid. Wondering if this is a sign the unit is going out. Any help would be most appreciated. I have contemplated calling Hughes but I know from experience unless your going to buy new equipment they are no help.
Thanks

sameasbefore

@bosen.us

I had similar problems early this year - no indication of any alignment, wiring, weather, obscuration etc. problems, yet the signal was up and down with a gradual degradation. I changed the transmitter (actually changed to a larger dish since signal has always been low in the NW here, so the whole assembly was changed) and everything has been rock solid and reliable since.

It sounds as if you may have the same problem. Apparently transmitters do fail after a few years, and they degrade intermittently.

Thanks it's been taking a beating with the rough weather around here lately. It's not where it's bad yet but whenever it rains it sometimes gets irritating. Hopefully it'll hold out until the 9000's come out in full then I'll go for the real upgrade.

i suspect water in the feedhorn if you have the older odu
with the clear cap then you can see inside for water.
the new model odu has a white cap on the feed.

all so try swapping the tx/rx coaxial
the modem could be the problem as well

Thanks I have the older one with the clear cap. I have been worried about that since it's so flimsy. I'll try sealing the edges. Just came out a drought and with all that dry weather out in the elements was just a matter of time until that flimsy thing started to crack.

I had similar symptoms in August 2007. I talked with HN India support (Hi my name is Rahda Rahda Krishnan, you can call me Robert) and they did exactly what I expected, run through the normal script, then deny any problems existed. My frequent signal losses went on for about 4 weeks, then they suddenly disappeared, and the signal has been solid ever since, except for normal weather impacts. At that time, I was on 89w/1070mhz. Now I'm on 89w/1390mhz. The change in frequency was not related to the signal loss episodes.

Good Luck,
Ed
