 Fishers in northeast CT?

No, not fishers as in rod and reel, I was thinking fisher cats.
I saw something cross the road yesterday that looked like a cross between an otter and a ferret. Bushy fur, dark brown. I was able to stop and watch it for a while.

Are they common this far south in New England?

Had one in our yard last winter (Ridgefield)...caught it attacking our friendly wild rabbit. We scared it off, then looked it up on wikipedia...'twas a fisher cat.

I have not seen one but I heard they are in the state. A lot of animals are coming back. Just look at all the turkeys!

Before you came to town there was even a moose that visited Putnam. He did not make it to far he crossed RT 21 at the Thompson line sadly the SUV driven by my oil burner repair man happen to be driving there at the exact moment.

Interesting, thanks for the insight. It was definitely interesting to see one running around.

Yes there are few. I've lived in CT all my life and saw a fisher cat for the first time about a month ago. It was very stealthy and careful in its movements, much like a fox. It had a beautiful thick coat. From what I've heard, you don't want to mess with one...

I saw one hop across the road one morning while out jogging. It looked strange at first from a distance.. it hopped like a squirrel but then i saw it had a very long bushy tail. And the head definitely was not a squirrel. Had very pointed ears just like a cat really. Very dark brown with some black in it.

About 4 years ago i thought i saw a small bear run across the road in the same spot.

I was at this breakfast spot i go to in baltic and someone had taken pictures of a very large bobcat. I forgot what town now but he reported it to DEP and they didn't believe him. So i guess then he took pictures of it.. they believed him then. It tried to take a large dog and a few house cats.

Woman from woodstock says she sees bobcats all the time. Had one stroll right through the yard while they were BBR'ing smelling the food.

Bobcats...smelling the food on BBR? Didn't know that bobcats could use computers!! Or that there were computers now that emitted "smells"...

(BBR=Broadbandreports... )

(Sorry, Rungel, couldn't resist...it just struck me as funny and it's been a LONG week... )
