I hardly doubt its because of U-Verse, other cities have that already and there is no 50mbps tier there..Besides, Comcast already competes with U-Verse with the blast! tier, (maybe not on the upload side) but yea..

Honestly though..I just want to get more upload speed, I'm still on 6/384 and what pisses me off the most, Chicago is at 6/1 for the same tier.

Wish I knew a CC tech or something to tell me when/if I'll get 6/1.
Just remembered what about the Minneapolis WiFi? we have several communities be it further away from MSP that have launched muni projects. But Minneapolis just got done with their wifi maybe Comcast doesn't want to lose out to business?

Does anybody know why Comcast picked MN for these "speed trails"? Or how they go about picking the city that gets upgraded before the rest?

Seems totally random on which city gets it..
The Twin Cities is a "Product Showcase Market" due to exceptional Node and Network health, along with low trouble call on install and repeat trouble call rates.

Comcast said that docsis 3.0 is coming this year supossedly because fios is coming in '09 unless comcast is just going off of rumors of when fios is coming.
I know that a verizon tech said that carroll county is scheduled to start getting fiber this year. So any Ideas on this.

50mbit service installed, had almost no time to actually test it before work, but the techs were great (I had two). Had to replace my drop (11 years old, lol) and the wire into my house, as well as a few fittings. Ended up splitting the original cable 3-ways, one to phone, one to hsi, and the last to an 8-way amp for the tv's. No more tiling, and rock solid connection so far.

By the way, the boot file is d11_m_dpc2505_showcase_c01.cm

Ah, I wonder if I should re-open my newshosting account so I can get an accurate reading on my speed...

I too have news hosting I've tried all the different ports getting 3.81mbs sometimes I get 4.0. I've had it for exactly one week and I'm already on the verge of cancelling I ca'nt get my speeds I'm paying for and nobody seems to want to help.

A tech was out and he did what he could everyone at comcast blames my equipment or spyware.

but Verizon has already demonstrated to the world at large that FIOS will be deployed to only the wealthiest of areas and not the world at large.

FIOS rollout is not going to wealthiest of areas, it's going to places where Verizon is the local telco.

If it was about wealthy areas, it would be in Silicon Valley now which has a high average and median income. But not only is it not there, there are no forseeable plans to come to SV. Most of SV does not have Verizon as its local telco, so it's out. And the few areas that do are a bit remote to bring FIOS there.

The point is, it's pretty ridiculous to say that FIOS is only going to wealthy areas. There are areas that are much much poorer than tech-savvy Silicon Valley, yet they have FIOS and Silicon Valley may never have FIOS.

Yeah, one analog channel takes the place of what could be 6-8 QAMS. Quite the waste...

Verizon is rolling out FIOS and bypassing residential areas that cannot pay the freight.

It is most likely that the Minneapolis area selected for Docsis3 is a newer residential development, with high quality, 1Ghz, fiber lines, and enough income to pay for Docsis3.

The need for Docsis3 caught Comcast blind-sided. They thought they had seven to ten years, but the user demands accelerated beyond Comcast's self-serving estimates.

Most of Comcast's network is 550Mhz or less, far less than is required for Docsis3 if HDTV is being offered. Comcast needs 1Ghz+ nationally, so the vast majority of their cable system needs to be upgraded at costs of billions dollars.

Comcast can advertise that they have more HDTV content than anyone, but they cannot offer any proof. DirectTV has far more HDTV offerings than Comcast can even begin to present, IMO.

Comcast should sell their cable television system to Direct or Dish or both, and then they MIGHT have enough broadband frequency to offer Docsis3 to their HSI subscribers.

If this were not the case, then all of us would have 50 HDTV channels and Docsis3 at the same price we pay today.

You called it: a 1Ghz cable system in the selected area of the Twin Cities selected for deployment of Docsis3. No way is the entire area getting Docsis3.

Showcase is correct. If it were not a showcast for the stock market, there would be a tide of Docsis3 rollouts in Comcast's entire area. This will never happen. Comcast hasn't the ability to raise enough capital for investment in a network-wide 1Ghz cable system.

You seem to know a lot about Comcast's network, have you actually seen Node Combining Plans that prove your point about most systems being 550mhz?

Anyway one of the main reasons why you don't have DOCSIS 3.0 already is because the cert isn't even finished yet.

It's true there are bandwidth limitations with HFC but you make it out to seem much worse than it is. As many have mentioned the elimination of analog will provide another 1.6gbs of bandwidth for use...

Oh and Minnesota is not a 1GHZ system, they wish they were but that is another story.
