Sorry about the late reply...
You can safely leave the 2nd DNS entry blank, or use one of the DNS entries (If Present), found in your Router's Static DNS table (located on the Router's Basic Setup page), or even use one or both of the OpenDNS Servers (208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220), if you happen to encounter any problems with using the other DNS settings.

I ran into a weird problem last night playing with the 360. My NAT always tests as open. While playing a game. The server timed out and I tried going into a new game. I could not join any thing and it said I needed to be connected online. Weird since I was still on. I ran the network test and it said my NAT was Moderate. Thats not good because it always needs to be Open to play every thing properly. I turned it off and waited for a few mins. Tested again and it was back to Open. Any ideas? |

| I'm not all that experienced with troubleshooting the Xbox myself, but try Forwarding the Xbox Live ports (88 and 3074) to your Xbox's Static IP Address in your Router's Applications & Gaming setup, and see if that helps... (?)
If not, perhaps someone else here with a bit more experience with the Xbox can offer more Sage Advise...

| No problem. I can ask on another forum. Quick question. I have noticed after making the changes. I cannot access my modems diagnostic page. I am assuming its due to this change? Is there a easy way around it or a fix? My modems page is this address »192.168.100.1/ and this is the error I get.
The connection has timed out
The server at 192.168.100.1 is taking too long to respond.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
Same deal with IE7. |

| Try a Full Power-Down/Power-Up Reset of your Cable Modem, Router, and PC, and see if that helps.
Power-up the Cable Modem first, then the Router, then the PC, and see if you can now access the Modem's Webpage... If that doesn't work, Try Resetting the Router's NVRAM settings back to Factory Defaults by pressing it's Reset button for about 20 Seconds.

| I done method 1. It worked once and right back to the same thing. Going to try the router method. On a side note. I found out how to get Xbox Live running properly. I needed to log in my router and forward a couple ports. Now I connect to games really fast and its working great.

Just noticed you mentioned the port method in your post. You was exactly right. |

I had another general question. With this method being fixed ip's. Is this the same as having a static ip or is that completely different? Also. If I add another pc. Would the address need to be set to 192.168.1.7? Last question. Do you suggest disabling DHCP with in my router settings or just leaving it alone at enabled? |

| You will still have a "Dynamic" IP, as far as your ISP is concerned... You are only setting "Fixed" IPs on the Router's LAN side, but the Router itself will still get a "Dynamic" WAN IP from your ISP.
Each PC (or Xbox, PS3, Wii, etc.) that you connect to the LAN ports of your Router must each have a Unique LAN IP Address (in the 192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 range)... No Duplicate IPs are allowed.
The Router's DHCP Server will only assign IP Addresses in the 192.168.1.100 and above range to any PCs that have DHCP Enabled.
If you will be setting Fixed IPs on ALL of your connected PCs (and Game Consoles), then you can safely disable the Router's DHCP Server function.

| Thanks again for all the help. I came across a interesting post on avsforums in the Xbox area. What do you think? If I just disabled DHCP within my router settings. And then enable UPNP would this work instead of using the port forwarding method?
"FWIW.. And I will admit I havent read this whole thread so apologize if someone suggested this already.
I use DD-wrt firmware.
I have found that all port forwarding issues have been solved by allowing the ROUTER to distribute STATIC ips. IOW, each device on network set to obtain automatically. Then in the router software assign an ip address to each device by mac address. Now enable upnp. THe router will now always assign the same static ip to each device because that ip is matched to its mac address. DNS still must be enabled but you can limit it to the number of devices you are assigning if you prefer.
You essentially have static ips, but they are still distributed by the router. UPNP apparently works better when the network is dishing out ips. Probably related to having dns enabled as many will disable it when they use static ips.
You will no longer need to forward ports because upnp will take care of everything."
