Re: Why is my Email client opened?

There is no icon/generic avatar to click on as I chose, when the site decided to show unbalanced icons not properly centered and too small, to see no icons/avatars and to get rid of mine. That was a long time ago. Since that long time ago, I have always clicked on the user's name (registered or anon) as there is nothing else to click on. I have always been taken to the anon profile or to the member's page...until this time that I asked about. I have never before had my email client open. That was a shock to me...for a moment I thought I must have gotten a virus having my email client open like that for no reason!

Try going to I See People and choosing to see no avatars and then try clicking on anon author names. In other instances, you will get the anon profile where you can block all anon posters if you want and, possibly, later change your mine and unblock. But on this one anon poster, clicking on his name made my email client open and that should not have happened.

The difference may be that only this particular anon user that you chose to click on chose to enter an e-mail address, where others did not. With an available e-mail address to respond to, the system assumes that you wish to communicate with that particular user and opens your e-mail client t enable that communication. That would explain why it does that some times and not others.

Absent a desire to directly communicate with an anon poster, there would be no reason to click on their name.

Thank you.

How then do I get the generic anon profile page if I wanted to block anon posters or if I had blocked them in the past and wanted to unblock in the future? There is nothing in the author column for me to click on because I See People does not see Avatars here the way I have it set up. Luckily, most of the anon posters names I have clicked on I guess don't supply email addresses and so clicking on their handles takes me to the generic anon profile page.

Until recently, I had I See People set so that I saw NOTHING but the user's handle so I had no way of knowing if a poster was anon or a member or a VIP, etc. and I like it that way. I usually don't need any more information than a handle. If I want more, I click on the user's handle and that takes me, in the case of members, to their member page. In the case of anon posters it has taken me to the anon posters profile page until this time when it opened my email client.

So, theoretically, if all anon users supplied email addresses then there would be no way for a member who blocks avatars through I See People to be able to block anon posts since they would not be able to reach the anon poster's profile page. So, is there some way I am unaware of to reach the anon poster's profile page other than clicking on their handle in the author column and hoping they did not provide an email address?

I think you're missing the point of what everyone is trying to tell you, if an anon poster chooses to be notified via email and fills out that field the link turns into the email address. In turn if you click that link an email client is opened. I don't see a problem here standard behavior of any browser for that matter.

If you want to block anon users here is how: »/profile/0 click the "Ignore All Anon Posts" button and block them.

I don't understand what's the confusion here?

You choose another anonymous poster's name to click on.

See, that screen (the generic anon profile page) is available for every anonymous poster. It is accessed by clicking the anon poster avatar. You choose not to display the avatars, so you remove that choice for yourself. Therefore you have to try clicking anon names to find one who has not entered a notification e-mail address, which will then get you the generic anon profile page.

Ok. Thanks. I get that it is not available any other way. I'll have to do what you said. But I am still puzzled as to why turning off/on anon posting is difficult for those of us who, for whatever reasons, have chosen to not see avatars here. I would have thought there would be a simple way to reach the generic anon posters page that didn't involve avatars. Since blocking for anon posters applies to all anon posters there is no reason to need to reach that page from any specific anon post so seems to me there could be another method of reaching the anon profile or another way than from the anon profile to turn on or off blocking. It is so much nicer here when there are no avatars or other stuff cluttering the author field.

There is a simple alternative:
