| Hughes email upgrade?
Got the notice that they'd be upgrading their system overnight Saturday night. 6 pm to 6 am. Tried to get mail, new notice stated 8am. After 9 now, still can't get email. Every time they touch it it's a week or so before they finally figure it out what they did and how to fix it. Wish they'd get a tech that actually knows enough to do it right in the time frame THEY set up. -- Hughesnet/isp.com/DW6000/Satmex5/1070,2 desktops( 1 XP,1 Vista) ,3 laptops ( all XP),2 static dishes,1 portable |

| Your @hughes.net email has been outsourced to TuCows since last year. But to reinforce your point, indications here also suggest that TuCows is apparently still working on this "upgrade"

| reply to krwest My post crossed this one.
Actually, I think the 11 am announcement was for the "period of upgrade" which I believe covers account management so they only have one inconsistency in their announcement of email availability. However, the bottom line is they haven't met any of their announced timelines.
I can only hope that their assurance that email won't be lost is more credible than their timeline.
I also recommend checking whether you really want to be blessed with their new antispam and antivirus features. I definitely don't want a filter that restricts my email delivery. I don't think there's any perfect antispam filter out there and certainly don't believe that HughesNet would have one!
I'm sure we'll see the messages about switching to another email service and they may be right.

@direcpc.com | reply to krwest It's 12:25 on the east coast and email is STILL down. I also have been having trouble with my satellite connection - it has been "on again" "off again" constantly for the past 2 1/2 hours. Anyone else running into that problem? |

| reply to krwest Just checked again. Still can't get email from my computer. I did go to the web site and logged in to 4 accounts, eventually. Very erratic behavior. Plenty of messages from 2 weeks to a month ago, but nothing newer.
Local messages vary from "Bad response from server" to "Connection refused" to "Authentication not enabled on this server."
Think I'll find something else to do and try again this evening!

| going onto 2 and still down. And they wonder why people are upset with the service! perfect example of lack of ability on their part, Tucows or not. Announce then fail to perform. When I logged in email showed yesterdays mail. None of today's or from 6 pm yesterday. -- Hughesnet/isp.com/DW6000/Satmex5/1070,2 desktops( 1 XP,1 Vista) ,3 laptops ( all XP),2 static dishes,1 portable |

Does anyone here know (in a nutshell) what if anything the new Filter-only service does vs. the old Defense system? |

| reply to krwest It's 1:08 in New Mexico and the mail server is still off-line. Hughes is a classic example of where American business seems to be heading. The marketeers, lawyers, and accountants run the show for maximum short term bottom line. Outsource as much as possible, do a sub-par job and hope the customer can take it. I worked for Hughes back in the 1980s. At that time they were top notch. They were set up as a non-profit company under a medical organization called HUMANA. They plowed their profits back into R&D. Very progressive. Then the IRS decided they didn't like that approach and forced Hughes into a breakup. They never recovered from it. What a disappointment.

| reply to krwest Looks like Hughes may still have some admin work to do. Here's the entire post from TuCows:
Offline - restore time is currently unknown
Please note that we have decommissioned the Email Defense system and replaced it with the new Tucows Email Service Filter-only service. We previously notified resellers about this important change in late March.
If you wish to use the new Tucows Email Service Filter-Only service, you can login via: »https://admin.hostedemail.com/ with the format:
admin@Resellerusername.adm your Reseller password
New Domains are added with the \\\'New Domain\\\' link. Then the \\\'New Filter-Only\\\' link is used to add each account. When the domain is set-up, change the MX to: mx.domain.tld.cust.hostedemail.com. Please note that all accounts on a domain must be filtered. Any Email sent to an address that is not an account or alias in Filter Only will be bounced.
If you have elected to not migrate to Tucows Email Service filtering-only, you should immediately point the MX record directly to the domain\\\'s primary mail server. |

Before I had »mail.hughes.net.... in my bookmarks, obviously they changed the address.
Email client still not working.
Edit: When I said it is working I meant that I can log in to the webmail, but the test messages I sent never arrived or will be hold back. -- dw7000/.98m/2watt/Horizon1/1390/256k4/5 /xp sp2/desktop compaq 6330CA/linksys wireless/thinkpad xp pro/Toughbook CF-28 xp pro |

| webmail.hughes.net goes to the old system. mail.hughes.net goes to the new one. Now it won't even connect to the server. Looks like they realize there's a problem and took it off line. It would be nice if they'd update the status reports to let us know when it will actually work! |
