Re: Cheap FTTH solution

Well its right now BPON but we are thinking to upgrade it to GPON, in future..

basically we r providing triple play services.. DATA+Voice+Video all in one problem we are facing is that the CPE we are providing to customers is very expensive here in Pakistan, and is out of reach of normal users, we have installed our last miles but facing problem in term of prices of CPE,

im looking for CPEs which can provide only DATa services like or could provide all three services but low cost CPEs.. i have searched through Google but still thought from experience ppl here i could learn good tricks

PON FTTH is still pretty new. In the US Verizon is the only major Telco rolling out PON.

I think very few if any of us posting on BBR actually work with product or vendor selection.

It is my understanding ONTs are modular but major cost is in optics and power supply which are no much affected by which services are provided.

GPON looks like the best choice short term because it dramatically increases speed and eliminates ATM. Volume production is the only way for costs to come down.

One of the reasons for Triple-Play services are attractive is it amortizes FTTH capital cost over more service.
