Re: Uhhh...

As pointed out by others you are incorrect on many fronts with your statement. Telco's can easily lower their price to compete and don't have to jump through hoops to do it. The regulations in place involve price increases not decreases and most deal with how they treat their competitors, not their consumers. Besides, they can simply eliminate all their below the line markup's and that would make a huge difference.

What needs to happen and what will probably happen eventually is that the pipe needs to carry the burden of these taxes, not the services and applications. Voice, data, tv, and music will eventually all be simply lumped into "broadband". They are all becoming simply 0's and 1's (data) and all that is needed to carry data worldwide is a broadband connection (wired or wireless).

I personally think that at a minimum there should be a complete separation from the pipe providers and the content providers and the 2 should never mix. SBC, TW, Comcast, Verizon.. they should either provide the infrastructure or they provide the service/content (voice, tv, ISP, whatever), but never be allowed to do both. Ideally I would like to see one nationwide fiber network that is citizen owned and government overseen. Then any content provider can reach any person that wants their service anywhere in the country without the monopolistic/duopolostic barriers that are in place now. That will bring compitetion and services the citizens want and those they don't will fall away.

Sorry, you are incorrect in your statement. There is a thing called the Public Service Commission, depending on the state, the name may be different. On top of that, there is also this thing called a Tariff. Better go check it out.
