Are you able to connect to the router with a console and see whether any messages pop up before it reboots?

Depending on the number of routes you are receiving, the router might be running out of memory causing a crash.

There may also be a crash report saved on flash which might contain more details, such as the last few messages displayed on the console before it crashed.

Also I notice that you have an IP Base IOS image. I didnt even think that had BGP?

If you control your backbone you should not be sending a full table to this router. Send defaults via BGP and then more specifics if required. If you don't control it forward that suggestion up the chain. Unless you have several connections and are taking multiple BGP feeds there really is no reason to take a full table...

Assuming the problem was due to full BGP table receive instead of partial/limited, then you can filter the incoming BGP table from the backbone. This filter you can do even when you don't have access to the backbone router.

Absolutely, my mistake. I normally filter outbound as we use soft-reconfigs, which requires an accurate list of the inbound prefixes from each peer. Thanks for pointing that out!

Questions:
1. If my router get crash memory, what must i do?
2. what kinds of memory will get crash, Flash or ROM?
3. may i change the ROM with general "EDO ROM" (FOR PC)?

best regards,

lauren

Those routes are still processed just not installed in the BGP table. So in away they still use up quite a bit of memory, the OP should consider asking his ISP if they use BGP ORF or filter the routes on the edge.

Also...a 3640 is WELL past its life and was never designed to handle a large amount of routing data.
