I've used both services too. Dish has by far a better DVR service. DirecTV does have a larger HD selection but that seems to be less of a factor as all the major channels are going HD anyway. And Dish tends to be cheaper but not by much. If you want quality HD directv has the benefit and dish if you want quality DVR.
