Blue Ridge Cable - PA

I had a rant on here about 2 months ago about how slow Blue Ridge was in adding HD channels to their lineup. Since that time they have added:

VS./Golf HD
The Weather Channel HD (no local on the 8's in HD yet. It's the national feed)
Sportsnet NY HD
Yes Network HD
CNN HD
Nat Geo HD
MHD(which really isn't worth anyones time)

So 7 HD channels in 2 months isn't bad at all for a total of 27 and they say many more to come.

InGrid has been selected by Blue Ridge Communications, a cable operator in northeastern Pennsylvania, to deliver its home security offering to Blue Ridge’s high-speed Internet and triple-play customers.

InGrid’s service provides Blue Ridge’s subscribers with always-on broadband, 24/7 monitoring and remote access to their homes – via a Web portal, mobile phone or PDA. Additional features of the service include the ability to receive text messages for customer-defined events and up-to-the-minute weather alerts.

InGrid said that its products have been designed to enable Blue Ridge customers to easily install the system themselves and then enjoy the convenience of monitoring and controlling what is happening inside of their homes.

InGrid Home Security is designed to address the needs of the Pocono, Penn., region’s large commuter population and families that spend a significant amount of time outside of their homes, InGrid said. Blue Ridge will offer InGrid Home Security services as part of its new digital offering.

“We consistently strive to deliver new high-speed Internet, digital phone and digital cable services uniquely suited to meet our customers’ lifestyles,” said Mark Masenheimer, GM of Blue Ridge. “Our partnership with InGrid is a perfect example of how we provide our customers complete technology solutions that offer convenience, an improved level of protection and the ability to remain connected to their homes.”

Each InGrid system has built-in redundancies and is monitored 24/7 with response from Guardian Protection Services, a privately held security company.

Blue Ridge Communications is the nation’s 18th-largest cable TV provider and a wholly owned subsidiary of Pencor Services.

blue ridge is a great company.... just the internet service they offer (i sadly use)

while it is fast and always on....

they are very shady in how they deal with customers.

They (PennTeleData) act cocky and treat customers like crap, they also have a lot of shady things they do with their TOS. Their highest bandwidth tier never sees the advertised 15000 download, more like 12000. One thing that pisses me, and alot of other PTD users... is the Bandwidth caps. They are supposedly 80GB down/45GB up as of maybe 4-6 months ago. Besides the fact that anyone who actually uses their internet for what it's designed for will burn up 80GBs in about 2-3 weeks. The problem is, these "caps" and NEVER advertised, not even in the fine print.

I happen to know a bit about how they run the buisness, and they waste their own time and money because of their stupidity.... File cabinets at a job agency is one thing, but an internet company should have abolished alphabetized file cabinets and got a damn server. Then they don't need to waste time and manpower doing what servers already do for free. Their minimal services they offer are also crap. G-mail gives me 6GB of email for free... I believe PTD gives me about 10-15 MB as part of the ~$60/month service.

They need to wake up and get ready, because the second FiOs hits the poconos, they'll be out of a job.

Re: Blue Ridge Cable - PA

Well seeing that FiOS hasn't been deployed yet north of Philly, it will be a while until Stroudsburg gets it. DSL is weak and that is the only competition standing against PTD.

Or you could moved about 5-7 miles down the road into Matamoras. Cablevision services that area sans Optimum Voice and the $5.00 additional outlet fee.

I tipped that article. I called in to tech support about a sound issue and the rep mentioned the news channels. A few hours later, Adams posted a promo offer on their site for new HD customers. By the time I get an HD TV here, they will have added more channels hopefully by the end of the year.

I received the Blue Ridge bi-monthly booklet and they are advertising "Coming in Mid-September enjoy over 500 HD channels starting on Channel 600"
I'm guessing they are added more HD channels and a bunch of HD on demand......I really don't know what the hell they mean lol.

P.S. Maybe 500 is a typo and they mean "50"?

Re: Blue Ridge Cable - PA

Yeah, 500 channels sounds a bit farfetched. Or, maybe they are pulling the Comcast BS and mean 500 HD choices. Well, anyway BRC is making the most progress of any other cable provider in this area, so enjoy more HD when it comes.

Wow! Thanks for that link stunnerstorm! I was shocked at the first batch of new HD channels and now another great surprise! Animal Planet, Science Channel, TLC, and Discovery are channels I've been hoping for awhile now.

I wish they would tweak the HD Plus package though. For what they charge it doesn't seem balanced. Maybe add some Voom type channels. The only reason I get it is for National Geographic. Once my promotion is up HD Plus is definitely getting the axe though.

I also hope they tweak their phone service. I just signed up to their triple play deal and moved from Vonage. I was shocked to learn you have to dial 1+area code for every number, even local calls. And not having any online account management was disappointing. Either way, I'll never go back to Vonage and their sneaky "disconnect fee".

Re: Blue Ridge Cable - PA

Well I sure hope this puts the pressure on other cable companies in the area. Adams Cable is up to 39 channels now, by next week BRC will be up to 48. Plus BRC hasn't done a rate increase yet and, most of the HD is bundled w/basic plus (with addition of the box). Adams does HD as a la carte, so they hiked the price on that this month.

Well, I noticed all the new channels! I wasn't big on how they moved all the HD channels to channel 601 and up though. I also noticed it looks like the Guide is different now. There is a TV guide icon in the movie descriptions I never noticed before. Also when I hit Guide on my remote I now see a "One Moment Please" in the upper right hand corner for a split second. VOD seems to be a bit snappier so thats a plus. Not sure if the entire guide got reworked or if it was just a software tweak. Regardless, I couldn't be happier with all these new HD channels!

What model cable box do you have Donkaroo?

Gemstar bought out Aptiv Digital, so they now have some small Gemstar touches like the TV Guide icon and the "One Moment Please" dialog.

I have Scientific Atlanta boxes cypher. I have 3 regular boxes, I think they're Explorer 3200? Then the main box is for HD/DVR, not sure of the model number off hand but I think its the 8300 HD/DVR. Both models seem to have updated to the new guide. One small tweak I wish they would have done is make the HD boxes have a wide screen guide. If I stretch the guide my HD channels get stretched too. Minor gripe though. :P

I think the inlaws are going to get rid of Blue Ridge and go with the Verizon DSL/Phone/DirecTV package because it's a lot cheaper. They don't have FIOS anywhere in Northeast PA right? They said they are getting a Verizon TV bundle, I would have to imagine it's resold DirecTV in that area.

I counted 48 HD channels. Quite a nice selection. Was just up in BRC territory this weekend. They are really good. Running a Starz/Encore promo for $5 a month for 6 months. Where I stayed has taken advantage of the deal. Only channels they don't get are TMC / TMCXtra.

Blue Ridge is really hustling on HD additions. Adams Cable will have to hop to it soon I guess, since they may be losing customers to BRC in Honesdale.
