I have Hughes, but am pondering changing. Someone help.

I've had HughesNet for the last 16 months. It's worked well enough. When it works, it's great. But it crashes a lot. And I mean aaallooottt, and when it does I usually get on dial-up. Anyway, we're moving, and I'm pondering switching to WildBlue or Skyway USA at the new house because they're cheaper, but I don't want to end up getting something worse than Hughes. So can someone help? I guess someone that's tried Hughes and others.

How has everyone's experience been with WB and Skyway? Would you leave Hughes for one of them if you had the chance, as I do?

I don't have any experience with skyway (I need the upload speed of a 2-way system) but I've had wildblue since September of 2005. I consider it quite reliable, except for the ~4 a.m. gateway maintenance window every couple of months. Other than that, it's been rock solid and the speeds are 90-110% of advertised 90% of the time. The bad is that the latency can be bad for some things at ~1400 ms now with peaks into the 2000 ms zone; browsing is speedy though as http traffic seems to be prioritized.

I've had the skyway for 4 days now and am very happy with it. It's killing dial up. You have to use a phone line but here in Ky you get a lot of rain and cloudy days and this makes for a stronger connection.

The speed is good for the dollar. I can't see going back with Hughes or trying wildblue, when I paid $580 and am covered for 13 months. You can go all out with skyway for the same money it takes to get the lowest level package with anyone else.
