@cox.net

if they go out of business, what will happen to my phone# ?

I'm thinking about getting Vonage and eventually porting over my home phone number. I've had this same phone number
for the last 26 years.

What will happen to my phone number if Vonage goes out
of business and shuts down service?

Thanks for your advice!

Another company would almost certainly take over their customer base and the number would be transferred to them. That's what happened when Sunrocket bit it.

Worse case; the # goes back to the original service provider if the number is abandoned.
Search Sunrocket and you will find that numbers weren't lost if acted upon.

Depends who you ask. I was told that they were going out of business when I first signed up. That was more than 5 years ago, and Vonage is STILL going strong.

Are they still offering an annual pre-paid discount? If so, and I accepted it, would paying with a credit card be likely enough protection in the event of Vonage ceasing operations?

That was what my wife said - more or less. 10% is fine, but good luck trying to get money back if we decide we hate the service and cancel it.

My own view is that everything else sucks too so unless it's even worse than AT&T Callvantage it's unlikely that we would have any reason to cancel it.

Now as far as going out of business. I don't know. I would think there's some proviso in all the regs I've been subsidizing with thousands of dollars in garbage taxes and fees all these decades which allows me to salvage that # in just such a case. Maybe not.

I've had Vonage for 1 1/4 years now with no serious complaints. The price is good so I suppose I don't really need to save any more money.
