Throttled TSI Users - Google Map - *Other resellers welcome*

Pin colors

I have created a Google Map showing the approximate areas of throttled TSI users. These locations are based on information publicly available in these threads:
»Teksavvy's throttling now? Just a vent, nothing is needed.
»Is your P2P being throttled? Post your info here.

This map has been set to allow collaboration and editing from anyone. Please go ahead and add to the map. (a Google/Gmail account is necessary in order to do this)

Here is the URL:
»maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en&ie···5a73&z=7

I have created this map as a way of quickly and effectively disseminating information to the media, customers, lawyers, Bell officials etc. Sifting through long threads is inefficient.

Focusing your frustrations on building awareness and evidence is a good way to help TSI.

Notes:
I do not work for TSI

EDIT below, including pics on March 27, 2008:

I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful contributions to the Google map! We are quickly approaching the 31,000 views mark.

The key to open collaboration is consistency, and so far things have been great. Keep it up everyone!

We are opening up the map to "Other" **DSL** reseller customers who are affected (since we are all in this together). Some examples include, Acanac, Sentex, Electronic Box etc etc.

Please try and keep with the pushpin color code and include your location with any pertinent details. Telling us what "Other" reseller you are with is a good start.

Blue w/ dot: TSI throttled
Green w/ dot: TSI unthrottled
Yellow w/ dot: Other throttled
Yellow NO dot: Other unthrottled

Hmm interesting, all the reports are in Toronto which is where the Bell transit is located! So this just makes no sense, I'm way out of Toronto and no slowdowns at all. If they are doing it on purpose, I can't see how it would fix congestion if in fact they have any because if there was then I would have been seeing general slowdowns before this throttling started.

Nice work. I've updated my pushpin to be a bit more accurate.

Seems throttled users are pretty well distributed (taking into account population). It ranges from the middle of the city to the middle of nowhere.

If the ERX were choking on traffic due to config errors or maxed-out links, TSI would have told us so like they did the previous time around. Instead of that, we got multiple posts from ROCKY telling us he needs to get Bell to explain what is happening, justify why they are doing it and double-check their contracts to see whether or not Bell can actually do this.

Can you add a feature so that those not throttled can also plot themselves ... this way it makes seeing the mosaic of connections is easier.

This map is/was meant to show areas that have throttling enabled. Mixing the two is pointless, and only makes it harder to see the problem areas.

You are more than welcome to create another map.

my guess at this point is that what bell is doing is probably allowable in the contract otherwise i can't see why teksavvy would not have just come out and said that what bell is doing is breaking the contract.

unless maybe they're trying to prevent bad blood and wait for a full explanation from bell on tuesday. though no amount of explaining will excuse any breaking of any contract and i'd assume repercussions would follow.

i'd also hope that any money saved by teksavvy as a result of said repercussions would be passed along to us.

yes, it's only been a weekend but when bell placed me on a lower profile by accident for a week i was given a free month of service...

edit - cool. someone on that map lives right near me in meadowvale.

Nice Work there mate, That push pin u put at Winston Churchill/Britannia (Mississuga/Streetsville) is
pretty close to my house :P. I only live a few minutes away just off of Farmstead LN and the throttling starts at
4pm-2am.

That was me :P, I'm just off Workman drive. Connection is quite painfully slow and I have two links!.

No, right now you can't tell the difference between "this area is not throttled" and "this area is throttled but no-one has come by from there yet". For all we know from your map, the entire province is throttled but the GTA uses the forums most.

Map has Ottawa marked, but I haven't seen throttling yet and I cannot find references to people being throttled in Ottawa in those threads, in fact I can only find references to people stating that there hasn't been any in Ottawa yet. Besides isn't that a little too generalized marking all of Ottawa?

I can't speak for the other user that has posted Brantford as a throttled area, but I've been testing from Brantford all weekend and into this morning.
I've had full speed (600+kB/s) download of an ubuntu torrent with no signs of any throttling at any time.

I also did some exhaustive comparison testing during the month of February, when I had a bell and TekSavvy login. The results of those tests indicated that Nexxia routing is very good... perhaps better than the Peer1 routing used for the TekSavvy premium service. I tested at various times of day and night and compared routes, ping times, transfer rates and torrent transfer speeds. The nexxia routes were always as fast or faster than the peer1 routes. I noticed the biggest difference with overseas links. In some cases the Peer1 transfer speeds and ping time were half that of Nexxia.
Having said all that, I am no fan of bell and love the TekSavvy service. My point is simply that I have never experienced any throttling at any time. Perhaps I'm just lucky, just as I was with getting a 6016/800 profile. Or does this business looking line profile maybe have something to do with it?

For the record, I'm hooked up via a remote to bas1-kitchener06.

I'm not with Teksavvy, but can tell you my area is being throttled also.
