Re: Skyway just got it. Here are the speed test results

hey bw21157,

"That a good recap skywayusa?"

Nope. Not a accurate recap of today's skyway. Skyway had a problem about 2 years ago and now is under new management and a new satellite. The customer service is great and the people have always been real nice to me on the phone. I have the Gold plan and since mid-Sept. of 2007, I've been very happy with the service and speed. You keep complaining about the old Skyway service of years past, and that's no longer the case today. Do you even have the Skyway service today, in order to give an accurate review of the new Skyway service instead of beating that dead horse of the old Skyway service of 2 years ago that no longer exists.

hey jesshwarren,

Why don't you just call Skyway's 800 number and ask them to change your account to the Gold plan? It seems strange to rely on an email, and one speed test to confirm whether or not your plan has been changed. Did you not get a confirmation email about the plan change? Did you not call Skyway directly to confirm the plan change? And after you have confirmed directly that the plan change has been changed, then run several speed tests to get an average of your new speed. 2.5Mbps is awesome if that is your average.

I've noticed that the people doing the most complaining about the Skyway service seem to be the people who paid for the slowest plan Skyway has to offer...the Bronze $29 plan. So these people are surprised that they buy the slowest plan and receive the slowest speed? 256Kbps is technically considered broadband by the FCC, but if you want entry level real broadband speeds then you will have to get the Gold plan of 768Kbps. IMHO it's not even worth installing a dish for the Bronze plan. If your buying the Bronze plan and expecting to get DSL speeds, then your dreaming. The Bronze plan gets you just a little bit better than dial-up and that's it. If you want to have a speed that you can really notice, then the Gold plan is the only way to go.

I'm still getting great service from Skyway and I'm happy. It is normal for there to be the occasional network congestion to happen. This is normal people. You are sharing a satellite access and Skyway as well as other ISP's use network traffic shaping (speed bursts) to help with sharing the network. And buying the slowest access from Skyway, will "surprise", give you the slowest access. How is this surprising? You want fast access, you have to pay for it. That's my two cents.

I'd imagine those paying for 256kbps would be happy with 256kbps. The problem is peak time usage. I'm sure once they have some sort of bandwidth shaping in place it will alleviate the problem.
