| AT&T CallVantage over FIOS through a Actiontec MI424WR
If anyone can help me get this working I will be greatful. I have a Dlink DVG-5102s telephone adapter (ta) and it can't connect to the service, but the return UDP traffic never makes it back to the TA.
I've tried dropping it into the DMZ, nothing. Tried forwarding all UPD and TCP ports to that device's internal ip (.7 in my network) also nothing.
I called AT&T, they say the device is checking in, but the return trip is not making it and I need to call Verizon.
I called Verizon and was told there was not much that can be done, other then the port forwarding, since this router is also here for the settop boxes. They suggested I call Actiontec.
I called Actiontec and they said something about a SIP ALG issue with Callvantage. I enabled that along with the port forwarding and still nothing.
I really need this to work for business reasons any ideas, other then turning the ActionTec into a bridge and using another router, are welcome.
Thanks you

What ports is it trying to use / access for both TCP / UDP? |

UDP 5060-5062 UDP 5620-5620 UDP 10,000 - 11,000
Then removed that and went to:
UDP Any - Any TCP Any - Any
Still no result. |

| Not surprised. Maybe someone else can chime in, as I heard newer Actiontec firmware may fix this issue but I haven't tried. I have the Centillum TA for ATTCV, and never got it to work with the Actiontec. Intstead, I have the Actiontec hanging off my Linksys router. I configured the Actiontec to be a switch instead of a router, but my TV services (Guide, Widgets, VOD) all still work with this setup. It's really a shame though, the Actiontec is a capable piece of hardware but the firmware is really poor. |

If mine works (with NO ports forwarded etc......)yours should. Your DLINK could be defective.
Unplug it, call AT&T ant tell them the unit "must have burned out". Tell them you need a new TA. Let them send you one and then you can decide if you need to do more troubleshooting.
Trust me, you'll spend years trying to figure it out so you need to eliminate the TA first. So what if it is registering? It could still be a bum one.
Side comment: Do you have any friends who have Cable or DSL that would let you plug the adapter into their network? If it works there, then I am wrong...lol |

| reply to chuckflynnva I tried to get this working back in fall of 2006. I called both Verizon and AT&T, but never got it working. AT&T told me that it was an issue with the Actiontec router, and the only way to get it working was to put it in front of the router (and kill up/down speeds). I just gave up and bought a separate router to use with FIOS. |

| NY Tel - My sister has comcast highspeed, I will take it over there and see if it works tomorrow. if it works then it must be the router (or some router along the route). If it fails i will call AT&T and insist they send me another fully tested TA.
Thanks everyone. I will let you know what comes out of this. |

Since I have the SAME router and firmware, let's try the process of elimination first.
If you do have to ask them for a new TA, please remember to unplug it so they don't see the TA online. |

He had to put the TA in front of the Actiontec or else it doesn't work. It bottlenecks his 15/2 connection, but he doesn't seem to care. |

Not any more - I works just fine as a slave off the Actiontec so to speak. I am living proof. |

| reply to chuckflynnva I'd like to know if this is working as well. I had the same issues as reported in the OP at the beginning of 2007. Ended up using Vonage instead, but corporate direction is to use CallVantage, so I'm thinking about switching back. To the person who had it working, you simply plugged the TA into an unused port on the Actiontec and you're up? Anyone else had any success?

Mike Yup, I did nothing, no DMZ, no port forwarding nothing - it just worked. I do have the latest firmware: 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7 for the Actiontec which does contain the"fix" for the real problem which did exist back around the time you had the problem. |

| reply to chuckflynnva Still no luck.
However, the Verizon tech I worked with was nice enough to give me the level 3 ActionTec support number. I had to convince the ActionTech person to let me as a quick question before he would listen to me, but in the end he talked with me. He suggested the SIP ALG setting, but that didn't work.
I called ATT back and they are sending me another TA to try, if this does not work I might as that person who said they bought a new FIOS router to tell me what kind (since mine takes COAX input). I also understand there is another option to get Verizon to run Cat5e through the house and convert the incoming line to ethernet. That'll be a last resort of course.
PS: The router is setup as follows.
Firmware Version: 4.0.16.1.56.0.10.7 Model Name: MI424-WR Hardware Version: D Physical Connection Type: Coax Broadband Connection Type: DHCP Broadband Connection Status: Connected Broadband IP Address: (Edited out) Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Broadband MAC Address: 00:18:01:(Edited out) Default Gateway: (Edited out) DNS Server: 71.252.0.12 71.242.0.12 Active Uptime : 5 hours, 34 minutes |

1 edit | reply to chuckflynnva So after more testing of the TA, it works fine over comcast, without being DMZ'd or using port forwarding.
At this point I either have to call Verizon support again and escalate to all hell, or I will just convert the router to a bridge, pass the internet into another router and drop an eight port switch behind it to ensure I have enough ports.
It's times like this when I wonder why things like this ActionTec just can't work like they are supposed to.
Anyone have some thoughts? |
