 [HSI] Charter Block p2p?

I notice a huge drop of p2p download/upload speed 1 week ago. It is still quite slow. I have 5M service and used to get around 300-400KB download but now only 20K. i didn't change any setting. It feels like it happened all of a sudden. Anyone got any idea? Thanks.

you have to have alot of people uploading/downloading for a movie/game/song/ or whatever your downloading to download fast. you can have a million people with that movie/song or whatever your downloading but if there's hardly anyone uploading it then your not going to download it in a min or hr or week for that matter. also you need to clean your computer of spyware quite frequently so those aren't sucking up your speed as well.

but I'm not seeing any difference

Thanks, the one I am downading has 40 seeds and more than 6000 peers. But the speed is still only 5-10K. If I got so many seeds/peers a week ago I got 200K.And I haven't changed any settings. That's why I feel uncomfortable.

6000 peers? wow...lol
anyways...
from my experience, the best way to test if your BT is working properly is to find a torrent you KNOW will seed well (private, many seeders, few leechers)
Then you will have a definite answer. Make SURE your port is forwarded if you are using a router.

And no, charter does not block any p2p. Love them for that.

you forgot one thing like i said above, people can control there download upload speed. so if there putting there torrent on a tight leash then your downloading is going to suffer.

Yes, I know this, but usually when I download 4-5 tasks together, overall the speed is around 150-300k. If all of of a sudden no matter what I download/upload, it is limitted at 20-30k for a week. No way all people just start limiting their uploads. That is called abnormal. That's why I feel upset. It was good.

By the way, I just did a speed test at dslreport and I was told "Warning: ISP upload compression was detected. Your upload speeds may be inaccurate."

I have no problems with torrent speeds. I usually download around 300kB/s to 610kB/s on torrent with a decent amount of seeders and I usually upload around 60kB/s to 67kB/s. I'm on 5/512 btw.

Charter did shape bandwidth like comcast.

I'll quit charter and go back to DSL where at least I can get 150K downlaod not only 30K!

Southern oregon here. I've found that Charter lately has throttled / blocked BT traffic which is unencrypted. For example, using the Azureus bandwidth testing tool, I'm unable to download/upload unencrypted traffic. Yet, when I switch to encrypted, I get my 5Mb speeds.

Also, I noticed at one point they blocked my DC++ port used for active file transfers. Switched to a different port and all was fast again.

If it's not on Google, then it doesn't exist.

Just tried Azureus, encrypted upload of BT can reach 50K, but download is only 0K!!! Unbelievable!

just out of curiosity if you don't upload, it will throttle your download depending on program, and some programs have a feature that let the person control who they let feed off of them if there ratio isn't high.

I just use UPNP with random port forwarding in Utorrent and my DGL4300(not as fast as before, overall only 100K/s download when I download 5 tasks together with more than 10 seeds and 80 peers connected for each task). The speed of Azu was corrent but it becomes slow again. I don't know why. One thing I am sure is that Charter is moving forward too quick. A technician came to my apartment yesterday to check the signal. He told me charter gets too many upgrade from 3mto 5m and 5m to 10m. Charter's "big"router is not big enough and they are upgrading their equipment. It'll take some time. Maybe the trafic in my area bursted in the past month so they put a cap on it. Charter WILL limit your bandwidth even they said they won't.
