| I propose that the Front page be reworked.....
to make a clear distinction between what is "News"..and what is editorial comment. If one were to read virtually any major newspaper and study the way it's formatted, you'd see that
"News" is addressed by presenting an item of interest or current event by answering the questions..."who..what..where..when..why..and how".
It is not presented in such a fashion as many BBR "news" stories are by the writer interjecting their personal feelings, commentaries and stabs and slants at whatever the topic at hand may be.
That is why there is a separate editorial section frequently labeled something like "In our Opinion"..followed by an area where readers may respond.
I think that this is necessary because as of late..I have noticed a decided slant towards repetition and bashing of certain isp's relating to certain issues under the heading of "news". News should be a standalone entity. Unbiased.
And not interjected by opinions from both sides..as frequently happens with the current format.
Here's what would I propose for the layout. Quite simply..the headlines of BBR be exactly that. NEWS headlines that allow no linked to commentary. The "news" shouldn't include the writers personal commentary..bias..or slant in any direction. It should answer the six questions posed above..
who..what..where..when ..why ..and how. It should tell the story..and nothing else.
And then, if BBR and it's management feels the need to have an editorial section. So be it. let it be in a newspaper format however..with "their opinions" be clearly expressed..followed by whatever commentary linked to that there might be by readers. I see no problem with that still being a front page item. Most newspapers would run from that idea though..placing THEIR thoughts and opinions on par with the NEWS itself. That's why they moved it long ago to another page.
IMHO..it is critical that as BBR grows, that they should consider remodifying this.

| there is some merit to your suggestion but on the other hand i like that the comments to any particular news are there for me to quickly check if i want to. On occasion i do and on occasion they are as good as the news itself

IMO most "news" is slanted in some way or another, or at least ones I have seen on TV and read in the paper. In order to get another "side" all anyone would need is google. BBR being a site unique unto itself doesn't need to have news as would be reported on any site.

I hear what you're saying, but I'm not sure how to go best about doing that.
Perhaps the term "news" is misleading. It' s probably easier to change "Latest News" to something that doesn't say "news" in the true definition of that word. But that's up to the powers that be.
I like the current format, and with anything, I take it with a grain of salt and usually at least attempt to read the linked articles.

Hence *object* I disagree, most "news" that any site, newspaper, or TV news puts out is recycled from some central source. Almost no one puts a spin on news anymore. And the one network (FNC) that claims not to, completely does.
I wish more news organizations would editorialize, because we need different view points on subjects.
If I want news with facts, I'll catch a Reuters feed or something similar.
But we need some editorialization back in our news. I'm tired of hearing the same thing from everywhere. Why must no one in the news question some of the things that are done by government officials, local and federal? Why do they just tow the line?
I don't mean they should throw opinion into news stories, I'd like to hear the facts first. But they need to editorialize somewhere.
I grew up where Senator Jeese Helms did the Editorials on television every night. I didn't like him, nor did my parents, but at least he actually came out with an opinion on the news and called people out on the things they did. |

I object, mostly due to the lack of volume.
If there were a lot more interesting broadband related news to cover on a day-to-day basis, then a more dry, strictly news format might work better. Without Karl or whomever "making the stories their own", BBR might as well just be sharing links to other sites. I think Digg and Slashdot cover that need well enough.

Any business, which is run for profit, will slant in the direction of its own best interest.

I agree with Rick . While I agree with others that there is always bias in any news article, this site makes no effort whatsoever to remain neutral or objective when reporting items as "news." Much of what is posted would be better categorized as an Editorial or "Our Opinion" section.
