[OS X] Mac MIni and External Firewire Stuff

I just got a new Mac Mini so I can make the jump to Intel and Leopard. I love it - however, (you knew this was coming) when I have a simple Belkin 6 port firewire hub hooked to the mini, I have a LaCie external drive and a Plextor DVD burner hooked to it. When the hub is connected, iTunes loading is SLOOOOOW (a large library of tunes is on the external drive). iTunes is so affected by this, it even clipped off some podcasts I was downloading. Toast 8, which works fine on the internal drive, freezes when I try to burn a disk when I connect the burner direct to the mini, all is sweetness and light. Also, I booted the mini with nothing (hub, external, etc) plugged in the port, quick boot and no iTunes issues. Anyone experience these types of problems with minis and external hubs ? Just curious - I will try some different cables, etc - on the hub to see what happens. Also, I can't remember if an area existed on this site where us Kool Aid drinkers adv. parts/systems for sale. Right now, I got a 1G stick that came from my mini (upgraded to 2G) and soon I will have a dual 2G G5 with a dual layer lightscribe DVD drive. Anybody interested ? Thanks you guys are the best.

Have you tried daisy chaining the firewire devices instead of using a Hub?

Can't daisy - both the external drive and burner both only have one firewire port

I can't think of any reasons it would be slow. I have a Mac Book and my library is on my pc and it conects wirelessly with no problems at all. Videos and music are just fine.

Good luck

And it works fine when that drive is connected by itself?
If so, the hub sucks. FireWire hubs shouldn't affect the throughput at all. Only USB throughput is affected by a hub...

This is a Lacie and a Plextor without FW daisy chain capability? Never ever seen a FW drive without two ports.
Now USB usually only have one port....but thats a different animal.

I tried one of those Belkin 6-port hubs with my Mac Pro last year, and encountered various speed issues with it, so I returned it to the store.

Had the same problem you have with the belkin.
I returned it got a second one same problem.
Got my money back got one of these and and put a cheap HD in it and the problem was solved.
