Automatic login - increase number of accepted clients

I'm guessing from the behavior I've seen that the site only allows you to log in from 3 or 4 different browsers before asking you to verify your password. Even if I'm always coming from the same IP.

I have two Macs - a desktop and a laptop, both dual-boot to Windows that I go back and forth between. On Windows I have firefox and IE. I also have an iPhone. Because I frequently change web clients I am constantly having to re-enter my password.

I understand the need to lock down an account when it appears to be being accessed from too many different places at once. But minimally, it should at least be smart enough to not count logins from the same IP against me, especially since your site tracks that information.

Not sure why such a limitation exists in the first place so maybe an explanation might change my mind.

In most sites, there would be a time based requirement for re-authentication. I don't ever recall seeing a client based re-authentication architecture before.

I followed the suggestion of this post (earlier in this thread) and it works well.

I now have one cookie for my desktop and one for my laptop. Whether I am running Windows or linux, I use the same cookie, and it shows up as the same login.

Previously, if I didn't reboot to Windows and connect to dslreports at least once every 3 days, I would find my Windows session logged out, and have to login again. Now, with cookie sharing, using either Windows or linux keeps the other login session still alive since they use the same cookie.

I am using firefox for this. On my laptop, I also imported the cookies into IE7, so can connect with that as part of the same session.

Now if I could find out how to import a cookie into opera, I would be able to use that one too. For the present, on the rare occasions I am using opera, I stay logged out.
