Hi All,
I will be getting 15/15 business FIOS service with Static IP shortly. I have a few questions about the setup.
I would like the ONT to be setup with Ethernet since I will not be using their video services just internet.
I manage our internal network and our own firewall.
Do I have to use the Actiontec router they provide or can I use my own?
If I don't have to use the router can I plug in the Ethernet cable coming from the ONT directly to the public network card of our firewall? Can the ONT be setup in bridge mode to support this setup?
I will be presenting this request to the installers, will they be able to take care of this or do I have to call support to make these changes on the ONT?
I hope you all understand what I need any info will be greatly appreciated. |

| The ONT will be provisioned for ethernet since you're business customer (no business video --yet). You can use your own router if you wish, you're not obligated to use the VZ router. In that case, the tech will run a Cat5e cable to your network input point and will give you the static IP info so you can input it into your router.
The ONT doesn't have any type of "bridging" to deal with.
The business office should include the static IP/DNS info in the order. They will also include any special remarks - such as "customer will provide router", for example.
Wouldn't hurt to confirm your requests with the business office prior to your scheduled install so they can include the remarks for the tech.

| The way it sounds you have your network set up, doesn't sound like you need a router in the path from the ONT to your firewall port (no other computers to "route" data to/from or additional security a router may provide). If you can administer your network (static IP, etc.) from behind the public firewall port, then the router would be one less thing in the chain to worry about. YMMV |
