Re: After 6 hrs on the phone...Nothing...

I spoke with Cathy tonight. From what I can gather (I didn't go to her house and troubleshoot), it sounds like her problem was her connections tab under internet options. I think her problem came from her previous hughesnet account....for some reason or setting, it kept on setting her ip address to something that hugesnet uses....but she caught up with me later and confirmed this....still don't know what speed she is provisioned for, she had a speed test result of I believe 1.7Mbps, Cathy...if you can, go to 192.168.1.1 and under the gateway column, about half way down, it should tell you speed up/down right under DSL link and above connection type....thanks....Scott

IP should be 192.168.1.xx, not 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.1 should be the default gateway

Check your TCP Setting
or UnInstall NIC from Device Manager & Reboot

OK..Did some checking around this morning and this is what I came up with...

Hooked everything back up...

Ran, DSL straight to phone jack, hooked ethernet straight into my computer..

Reset DSL modem..

Went to network-share center and found...Unidentified network..

clicked on that and found...Local area connections does not have valid IP address..

All the IP addresses I found were saying 192.168.1.1 but when I ran a ping test on that number it would say request timed out packets sent=4 received=0 lost=4

All lights on modem are working..DSL:solid green Power:green E1:green internet:green(blinking)

So still not able to browse..

SO if I hook back up to hughesnet..everything works fine..

So I will sit and wait for a new modem and hopefully it will work...Keeping fingers crossed

If you can not access the modem at 192.168.1.1 there are only a few possible causes.

1. - the modem is not working

2. - something is not hooked up right.

3. - there is a problem with your pc.

On your modem what lights are on?
Start by going into network connections, right click on the connection that is in use (the network adapter that i shooked to the modem) and hit status,
then, click on the support tab. What is the ip adress listed? If it starts with 169 try right clicking on your connection and hitting repair to see if you can get it to give you a 192 address. If not, you can try going to a command prompt and typing in ipconfig/release then press enter. Then, type inconfig/renew and hit enter. I would reboot at that point, then check and see what ip address you are now assigned. If it now starts with 192 see if you can get into your modem at the 192.168.1.1 if so see if youcan get online.
If your computers ip address starts with 169 still, I would suspect wither the network adapter in your pc or the modem is faulty.
Post what all lights are on on the modem as well.

First step, throw the CD in a drawer. I'd say throw it out, but there may be something on there that you may one day find interesting (though not really useful). Once you are sure you have everything connected correctly, turn on the modem and push in the reset button on the back. Disable any firewalls on your system. On your pc in Control Panel under Network connections, right click your LAN connection and choose Properties. Double click TCP/IP, and make sure everything on the first tab is set to Auto. Click OK to close all of the open boxes and try accessing the modem again at »192.168.1.1.

Got my DSL stuff yesterday...Hooked everything up as explained and turned it on..Nothing..CD said "could not detect modem" using a westell 327w..

When typing the IP address 192.168.1.1 in the address bar it would say "invalid address" none found..

So I call Verizon tech support, they troubleshooted for ever and said it was an HP problems..

Called HP and again troubleshooted..Nothing on the computers end..

So back to Verizon..after hrs of trying they decided to send me a new modem..

Very frustrating...Is it common for this to happen?

Just bummed..Thought it would be easier
